‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Finale: Did Damon and Enzo Kill Or Save Bonnie? [Spoilers]

Friday the 13th was the Season 7 finale of The Vampire Diaries. It has been a mix-matched season, but the end brought one question: could Bonnie Bennett be saved?

Last week, Bonnie woke despite wanting to originally die, and found herself hunting for her friends. Caroline was first, being marked by her first. It was a race against time to save her, and Enzo knew that by killing the last Everlasting, they could break the curse that Rayna had passed onto Bonnie to save her life.

The problem was the Everlasting was in The Armoury, which was recently completely sealed by Bonnie. Only a Bennett witch could reopen the Armoury doors, and did they even really want to do that? The vault monster was out and there was a huge risk by opening it up and potentially letting it out, as Entertainment Weekly recapped.

Of course, Bonnie’s life was worth far too much, so they just had to do it. After trying to blow up the doors and finding that didn’t work, Damon had an idea. Maybe they would need Caroline’s twins to siphon the magic sealing it. Caroline definitely wasn’t happy about that. She wants her twins—well, Alaric and Jo’s twins that she carried earlier on The Vampire Diaries to take Candice Accola’s real-life pregnancy into account—to have a normal life for as long as possible.

While Stefan was willing to let Caroline make the decision, Damon wasn’t going to let Bonnie die or have to keep hunting. Right now she was able to warn Caroline to keep driving (and drive faster) but the urge to kill her was getting stronger. Sooner or later, The Huntress curse would completely take over.

Damon and Enzo decide to kidnap the twins, but Caroline has a change of heart hearing Bonnie’s voice. She needs to save her friend, and Alaric is happy for the twins to help if it means Caroline can be reunited with her family.

With The Armoury opened by the siphoning twins, Enzo makes a call to Bonnie to distract her. He wants her to chase him, and she agrees to that. It means Damon and Stefan have the time to find the last Everlasting and kill it to save Bonnie. Does it work or will The Vampire Diaries lose Bonnie yet again?

With no news of Nina Dobrev returning to The Vampire Diaries, many assumed that Bonnie would be saved. The question was how it would happen and whether the vault monster would become an issue. When the Salvatore brothers can’t find the Everlasting, they decide that it has to be in the vault that they shouldn’t open.

Damon makes the ultimate sacrifice to save Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries. He doesn’t want Stefan risking his own life, and asks Stefan to let him do this by himself. Win or fail, he needs to be alone to do it. Of course, that leads to the big issue right at the end, but his focus is on saving Bonnie—and in turn himself, Enzo and Caroline—right now.

Just as Bonnie gets the upper hand on Enzo and he is willing to let himself die, Damon finds the Everlasting and burns it. The curse is broken and Bonnie is saved, saving Enzo at the same time. All the scars disappear to make it clear the Huntress curse is completely over.

Bonnie didn’t die, so that means no Elena for The Vampire Diaries Season 8. Instead, the vault monster has taken over Damon and Enzo and they are now on a dark killing spree. It looks like The Vampire Diaries have a long road ahead of them next season to get Damon back to Elena.
