WWE News: Update On Shane McMahon And Stephanie McMahon Angle — Is It Slowly Leading To Brand Split?

When Shane McMahon came back to the WWE months ago, it was a major shock. No one saw the return coming, and it was kept secret until the moment Shane stepped out to the infamous “Here Comes the Money” music. The Detroit crowd blew the roof off of the place, and fans at home instantly knew something big was coming. The question for many fans was regarding Shane’s status with WWE: Is he back full time now? Will he be an executive again?

All of the questions were continuously unanswered, but then WrestleMania 32 happened. Shane McMahon lost the match against The Undertaker. He pulled out all the stops, even diving off of the Hell in a Cell, falling through the announce table. The stipulation was that if he won, he would control WWE RAW. If he lost, he had to give Vince McMahon back whatever is in Shane’s “lockbox.” We may never find out what is in that thing.

Shane lost, meaning he would not control RAW. Yet, he ended up controlling RAW for most of April. Then Vince decided that he would have both Shane and Stephanie McMahon run WWE RAW. Stephanie has been playing nice, sort of babyfacing things up a bit. This led many fans to wonder what she was up to and where the story was going with the McMahon siblings.

According to the Wrestling Observer, the plan is to have the two of them feud in the coming months. Eventually, the Stephanie McMahon “nice girl” act will be dropped as she gets frustrated with not having ultimate power. The rumor from here is that this issue between the two of them will lead to Triple H and Vince McMahon coming back to “smooth things over.” It seems pretty obvious that Vince McMahon wants competition with his kids, so that will eventually be pushed.

Triple H most likely will take his wife’s side in everything, which makes things interesting. Some people have naturally assumed that Shane McMahon and Triple H will eventually face off at WWE SummerSlam at the end of the summer. WWE has kept them apart since Shane’s return. The reason for this is because Triple H is not a fan of Shane being back and even downplayed the return before it even happened.

Most see the Shane hate as jealousy, seeing as Shane could return and gain power back in WWE if he so desired while Triple H and Stephanie McMahon never left and have worked hard for years. The thought is that stuff would be handed to him, whereas they had to work for it. This is by no means happening. As the Inquisitr reported recently, Shane is not coming back an executive with WWE and is just a weekly character on television. While he could always change his mind, that is doubtful for now.

All of this being said, we should not expect Shane O’Mac and Triple H to wrestle each other anytime soon. Triple H will publicly support things, but behind the scenes, he does not enjoy Shane being back.

As for what will happen in the future with the Stephanie McMahon/Shane McMahon angle, the rumored plan for months was to eventually lead to a brand split. There was a rumor that WWE could start it right after WWE Payback, but that did not occur. Most believe WWE’s target date is after SummerSlam, most likely because Vince McMahon will see that competition is needed yet again and feels his two children could fight against one another on two different shows to deliver that.

It was said that before Shane McMahon returned, WWE was planning on doing the brand split again. The return allowed them a great way to do it, but they have to make the current storyline lead to something like this. It cannot happen overnight. That said, expect the McMahon summer angle to get very interesting.
