Kanye West Eyeballing ‘Idol’ Judgeship
Kanye West is reportedly in talks for a seat at the American Idol dais. While this might make for a pretty interesting Idol season and might help the show’s flagging ratings, we can’t help but wonder whether or not West can keep his mouth shut long enough for a contestant to get through a performance.
Though he’s reportedly been offered a spot, sources say that Kanye is “on the fence” and wonders whether Idol is “in his wheelhouse.” Money might change that, as he’s said to have been offered the same sweet deal as confirmed Idol judge Mariah Carey — $18 million, reports the Huffington Post. Like Minaj, Kanye has yet to publicly comment on the offer, but Mariah’s deal was a rumor long before she confirmed it, so there might be something to the story.
Other top music celebs rumored for Idol judge seats include Pharrell Williams, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Nick Jonas, and Alanis Morissette, reports MTV News. Whether the new dais will join long-time judge Randy Jackson is unknown, as Jackson has been said to be moving to more of a “mentoring” role on the show.
MSN Now welcomes the possibility of a Kanye West Idol judgeship. “The Voice has been way more compelling thanks largely to its perfect mix of pop-star judges,” they argue, saying that if Kanye signs up, “imagine the awesome potential for unscripted hijinks and diva-ish behavior with Yeezy, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj,” at the table.
We have to admit, it would be interesting as long as we don’t have to listen to stuff like, “Yo that was great and imma let you finish, but Bo Bice did the best ‘Free Bird’ cover of all time… OF ALL TIME, Y’ALL!” every single episode.
