Kelly Ripa’s New Co-Host? Michael Strahan Lands Daytime Gig [Rumor]
ABC was hoping to keep Kelly Ripa’s new co-host a secret until September 7, but it looks like the cat is out of the bag. Michael Strahan will reportedly be sitting in Regis Philbin’s old chair on Live! With Kelly. Or, well, I guess Live! With Kelly and Michael.
TMZ reports that staffers at the ABC show in New York confirmed that Strahan won the co-hosting gig over potential candidates like Anderson Cooper, Seth Meyers, and Marc Consuelos. And, to add a little credibility to the rumor, TMZ photographers spotted Strahan’s rep outside of the studio this afternoon “grinning from ear to ear.”
Strahan was one of 59 people who sat beside Ripa on Live! With Kelly since Regis Philbin left the show last November. The former NFL player acted as co-host 15 times during the last year, more than any of the other possible candidates.
According to the NY Daily News, Strahan plans to keep his analyst positions at Fox Sports during the upcoming season. Strahan broadcasts live on Sundays during Fox NFL Sunday, so there shouldn’t be much of a conflict. Strahan will, however, have to fly back and forth from New York to Los Angeles every week to film both shows.
