Kelly Ripa On Moving ‘Live!’ To L.A.

Ever since the drama began following the news of Michael Strahan leaving Live, speculation about Kelly Ripa’s new co-host has been rampant, and rumors of what’s going on between Kelly and everyone at the show are everywhere you turn. Today, ET Online reports that Ripa is considering the possibility of another location in the future — Los Angeles.

Kelly recently learned that husband Mark Consuelos’ TV show, The Pitch, has been picked up by Fox. The series will film on the West Coast, and on Wednesday morning’s Live broadcast, Kelly joked about moving to L.A. at some point and doing the morning show from there. Strahan asked if she would really consider moving to California.

Ripa responded, “Yeah, I mean, if the show goes, yeah. Eventually I would have to go, right? And then I could be a Hollywood wife.”

Kelly rolled her eyes at producer Michael Gelman and told him not to worry, adding that she would take him with her. Apparently not thrilled with the idea, he reminded Ripa that she has commitments in New York at the moment. An exchange between the three of them — Ripa, Strahan, and Gelman — ensued as Kelly joked about the name of the new show.

“It will be called Live! From My Backyard,” she joked.

Strahan added, “Yeah, with your fruit trees.”

To this, Kelly responded with, “The name of the show will be called Fruit Trees in the Backyard. It will be amazing!”

Gelman joined in with, “Live! at 6 a.m.

Joking aside, marriage to Mark Consuelos while he is in California and Kelly is in New York would make for some difficulties. Ripa added that her 14-year-old daughter, Lola, is very much in favor of moving to California. It seems that she fell in love with the state when she watched Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel several years ago and has been aching to go ever since.

People magazine reports that Kelly told the Live! audience, “My daughter was like, ‘OMG, are we moving to L.A.? Should I start applying to schools now? Because I know all the schools out there!'”

Time will tell where Ripa and her family live and in what direction Live will go. First things first as we wait to see what happens when hubby Mark Consuelos’ show hits TV screens. Will it be successful and have a long run, or will the series be short-lived? At the moment, Kelly and everyone else at the show have a more immediate situation to deal with anyway. They have to find a new co-host, one that will meet the high standard set by Michael Strahan. No word yet on who that will be, but a source told ET Online that they are seeking someone who brings some ethnic diversity to the set. That probably rules out rumored replacements Neil Patrick Harris and Anderson Cooper.

As the search for someone to permanently occupy the seat next to Ripa continues, we have learned that Jimmy Kimmel will be her first guest co-host. He will be followed by actor Jussie Smollet, Cedric the Entertainer, newscaster David Muir, and actor Daniel Dae Kim.
