Taylor Swift’s BMI Award Show Success Gives Singer More Reasons To Celebrate

Taylor Swift’s BMI Award celebrated her achievement in having four of the most performed songs this year. Taylor Swift’s BMI Award also reveals the reason she is the artist bringing in the most profit. Swift had an incredible past year off the strength of her 1989 album and her tour schedule. She brought in $73.5 million this year.

The BMI Pop Awards took place last night in Beverly Hills, California. The show celebrates artists bringing in the most performance royalties. Taylor Swift, as usual, was the highlight of the event. Even more fantastic, BMI gave Taylor Swift an award with her name on it. It’s only the second time BMI has done that, the first being with Michael Jackson in 1990.

In addition to winning the Taylor Swift Award she also won Pop Songwriter of the Year. As Billboard reports, the four songs that helped Taylor capture the BMI award are “Bad Blood,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” and “Wildest Dreams.”

Other major award winners at the show include the songwriters behind “Uptown Funk,” which won Pop Song of the Year. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil won the BMI Icon Award. Mann and Weil are a husband-and-wife songwriting team currently in their 70s. The duo is responsible for numerous hit songs, many of them appearing in plays and on film soundtracks over the years. Sony/ATV Music Publishing was honored as Pop Publisher of the Year. Sony/ATV owns 23 of this year’s most performed songs.

The BMI Pop Awards are just one of a number of annual BMI Awards shows. Others include the BMI Country Awards, Film & TV Awards, Latin Awards, London Awards, and more. BMI stands for Broadcast Music, Inc. The organization represents songwriters, music publishers, and composers and helps them get paid for performances of their work.

As the Daily Mail reports, Swift showed up at the BMI Awards in a stunning, 90s-inspired elegant gown. Swift is setting fashion trends as she sets musical ones. At last month’s MET Gala, Swift also made fashion waves with a metallic outfit as she partied with Loki actor Tom Hiddleston and avoided Kanye West.

Besides a continual flow of awards, Taylor has also experienced the downsides to pop success. A creep was found snooping around outside of Swift’s New York City apartment yesterday. Swift wasn’t home at the time, but her security guards detained the man until police arrived. The man was sent to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. This isn’t the first guy to prowl around near Swift’s living quarters. The talented, beautiful singer has been dealing with more and more stalkers with her ascent in popularity.

Is Taylor Swift’s career peaking, or will she continue to outshine other female solo artists as long as she is around? Having BMI give her an honor that they’ve only ever given Michael Jackson is a sign that Swift may be headed for pop music immortality. If fans are waiting for her next album, then 2016 might be the year she will put out something new. Swift usually releases an album every two years. 1989 was released towards the end of 2014.

But since Swift continues to win awards for 1989, a new album might not be released until the very end of 2016 or even 2017. Maybe she and Kanye West can work things out enough for a duet track on Taylor’s next album. If not, she should at least write a song in response to Kanye’s “Famous” song. That song sparked anger from Taylor Swift when it was released on Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo earlier this year. Instead of writing hits about the guys she has dated, she can write a song about a guy she hated.

Taylor Swift’s BMI Award success is bound to topple her already full awards cabinet.
