‘Game Of Thrones’: George R.R. Martin Publishes New Chapter From His Next Book

There’s a lot of chatter right now about the Game of Thrones TV series, leaving many to forget that George R.R Martin is currently busy working on the next book in the series. The Winds of Winter has been long awaited by fans of the series. According to CNET, the author has published a new sample chapter from the next book in the series that Game of Thrones is based upon. For fans eagerly awaiting the next book iteration from George R.R. Martin, that very new chapter should keep them going for a little while.

For viewers of HBO’s Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin’s source material will now take a very different path to that of the show. With that in mind, it’ll be very difficult for viewers of Game of Thrones to jump straight into the upcoming book, The Winds of Winter, in the respect that this sample chapter is told from the perspective of Arianne, the daughter and heir of Doran Martell, best known as the Dornish king himself. There’s a good chance that considering how drastically Game of Thrones is splitting from its source material, viewers of the HBO show may very well not come across the character who’s perspective this particular chapter is told from.

According to Digital Spy, the freshly released chapter focuses on Arianne’s interaction with the Sand Snakes, a series of characters that viewers of Game of Thrones will know all too well.

George R.R. Martin began by asking readers of his blog “You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in Winds of Winter?”

However, the author wasn’t keen to give away too much information about the upcoming book, going on to tell fans that the “sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait.”

George R.R. Martin occasionally turns to his blog to provide Game of Thrones fans with an update regarding the next book in the series, however, the author is known for taking his time when it comes to releasing new books in the series, always leaving fans wanting for more when he releases a sample like this. There was also once a time when these samples released by George R.R. Martin would provide something of a snapshot of what’s to come for the Game of Thrones TV series. However, Season 6 sees the first time Game of Thrones splits away from its source material, meaning that Martin’s latest sample doesn’t provide much for viewers of the show.

Since Game of Thrones aired its first season in 2011, it’s been quickly hurtling towards its current point and running out of source content from George R.R. Martin’s books in the process. From Season 6 onwards, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are responsible for developing the show’s storyline under the guidance of the source material’s writer, George R.R. Martin. This fact means that Game of Thrones will effectively have two different stories going forward: one for the novels and another for the TV show.

Earlier this year, George R.R. Martin said that he was still months away from delivering a manuscript for the next book in his series, and bearing in mind that it would take months for his editors to turn that manuscript into a book, it’s easy to see why the Game of Thrones TV series has overtaken the novels. Martin does, however, have a track record of releasing samples much like this one, meaning that fans of Game of Thrones could see another sample chapter taken from another section of the book before it sees its final release.
