Blake Shelton Admits He Still ‘Can’t Believe’ He’s Dating Gwen Stefani

Blake Shelton is dropping some major bombshells about his whirlwind romance with girlfriend Gwen Stefani and admitting that neither he nor Gwen can believe their relationship “is actually happening.”

Speaking out about his and Gwen’s romance in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight on The Voice red carpet on May 9, Shelton got candid about the two’s new duet “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” his love of Gwen’s music, and his relationship with Stefani’s three children.

Opening up about his and Gwen’s new duet, Blake admitted that he was actually just aiming to “impress” Gwen while writing the song and confessed that the track was originally supposed to be a way of making himself and Stefani “feel better” following their 2015 splits from their respective spouses, Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale.

“When I originally started writing this song, I was only trying to impress Gwen,” Blake admitted of “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” which he and Stefani co-wrote, on The Voice red carpet on May 9. “It was just kind of something for she and I to help us feel better about what we were going through.”

May 9 also marked the first time the couple hit the stage together to perform the new track on The Voice stage, and Blake confessed to Entertainment Tonight that he and Gwen actually had a little trouble stopping themselves from smiling at each other during their romantic debut performance of their new duet.

“The hardest part was not smiling throughout the whole thing while we’re singing it because we can’t believe this is happening. We still can’t believe this is happening,” Blake Shelton told the site of his six-month whirlwind romance with Stefani.

Blake Shelton previously admitted that “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” which is featured on his new album If I’m Honest, is actually one of his favorite songs he’s ever written, according to a press release obtained by Sounds Like Nashville.

“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written or recorded. It came from a time and place when Gwen and I were beginning our journey together and both experiencing a hard time letting our guards down with each other,” Blake said of the song earlier this year.

“The song couldn’t possibly be more honest,” Shelton continued of his and Stefani’s new track. “I’m honored to have written and performed this song with the great Gwen Stefani.”

But while Blake Shelton may have teamed-up with his girlfriend on their new song, Shelton also admitted on the Voice red carpet this week that he’s been listening to a lot of the star’s earlier music, both as solo artist and with the band No Doubt, since the two officially went public with their pretty surprising relationship in November 2015.

“It’s funny because I still discover songs that I know almost by heart that I didn’t even know that she’s the one that sang them,” Shelton joked to the site.

But when Blake Shelton isn’t listening to Gwen Stefani’s extensive back catalog of hits, Shelton revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he’s been spending a whole lot of time hanging out with Stefani’s three children, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, in recent months.

“They’re so used to me hanging around, it’s just Blake to them,” Shelton told the site, admitting that he just “faded off into the blur” when he accompanied Stefani’s kids to the recent premiere of the Angry Birds Movie, for which Blake contributed a song to the soundtrack.
