‘Jumanji:’ Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Wants To Make Robin Williams’ Family Proud, Offers Updates On The Movie

It was reported a month back that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been cast as the next lead character in the Jumanji reboot. The 44-year-old actor recently took to Instagram to share some updates about the follow-up to the 1995 film starring the late Robin Williams.

In the lengthy post, as E! Online reports, Dwayne Johnson said that he had just met up with Director Jake Kasdan and Producer Matt Tolmach, as well as the production team who will be working on the Jumanji reboot. Johnson, aside from acting in the movie, will also serve as one of the producers.

It seemed that the meeting went well, and The Rock said that he wanted to take a minute and talk about Robin Williams, who played Alan Parrish, a man who was trapped in the Jumanji game for 26 years. Dwayne Johnson said that he has “boundless” respect and love for the late actor, and he wants to honor him through the Jumanji reboot “in an earnest and cool way.”

The Rock then went on to recall the first time he met Robin Williams backstage, saying that he was star stuck, and Williams was the one who calmed him down.

In summary, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson expressed his love for Robin Williams, and went on to say he wants the late actor’s family to be proud of what they do in the upcoming Jumanji movie.

In the 1995 movie, which was adapted from a children’s book with the same title, Robin Williams’ character Alan Parrish got trapped in the Jumanji game while playing with a friend when he was 12-years-old. 26 years later, Parrish, now an adult, is released from the game when two siblings start playing the same game. They find Parrish’s friend, and the four go on an adventure while continuing to play the game, since finishing the game is the only way to reverse all the chaos it has caused. At the end of the movie, the game is seen buried in the sand on a beach in France. Check out the original Jumanji trailer below.

In addition to expressing his love for Robin Williams, Dwayne Johnson, as reported by Coming Soon, also shared a few details about the Jumanji reboot. He said that the first movie had three big roles, but the nextJumanji will feature five. During the past few weeks, there have been rumors about Kevin Hart being one of the actors to join The Rock in the movie. Will he be one of the five main characters Johnson is talking about? There are no details whether the new Jumanji movie will add a new spin to the first movie, or if it will be a sequel that continues where the last movie left off.

When the Jumanji reboot was announced, some fans of the first movie immediately reacted negatively to the idea, saying that a reboot would only ruin an already good movie. However, The Rock promised fans that he will not screw it up, as reported by ET Online.

“Promise to deliver something cool and special… and not screw the whole d*** thing up.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also said that more details and casting announcements for Jumanji will be made available within the week.

Jumanji will be released in theaters on July 28, 2017. Are you excited to see The Rock in Jumanji? Share your thoughts below.
