Drew Barrymore Spends Mother’s Day With Estranged Husband’s Mother

Drew Barrymore celebrated Mother’s Day with her soon-to-be ex-husband’s mother. Barrymore, who praises Kopelman’s mother and father in her book Wildflower, took to Instagram to share photos with Coco Kopelman. The first is an image of Coco playing with daughter Frankie on the beach.

The second photo Drew Barrymore decided to share was an ode to her estranged mother, whom she doesn’t have a relationship with. She shared a photo of she and her mother from 1982.

Lastly, Drew shared a photo toasting with her mother-in-law Coco, and her estranged husband’s sister, Jill.

It’s not a huge surprise that Drew would spend the day with Will Kopelman’s mother even though she and Will are set to divorce. Barrymore has stated on several occasions that she has a strong bond with her mother-in-law. Recently, Barrymore made it clear that her children, Olive and Frankie, wouldn’t suffer as a result of the impending divorce, and it looks like Barrymore is serious about that and is interested in continuing a healthy relationship with Kopelman’s family.

As the Inquisitr reported, Barrymore opened up to Good Housekeeping about her current state given the announcement of her divorce.

“I thought I knew what love was, but holy cow, I did not.”

She highlighted her own childhood, which was filled with drama and instability thanks to her mother and absentee father.

“My home life was lonely, depressing and frankly a bit scary, and that set was the happiest, safest, most wonderful place on Earth. You can’t always see the moment that changed your life forever, but I can. I was 7, and I suddenly had a career.”

All of that taken into consideration, Barrymore said that because of her childhood, she made sure her children didn’t share the same upbringing.

“This is my chance to get it right. I’d never let them become child actors. They’ll have a chastity belt, a tracker system, no cell phones and we’ll live in the middle of nowhere. In reality, I’ll just lead by example by being spirited, classy, consistent, philanthropic, hardworking, loyal to my friends and there any second they might need me.”

She was quick to make it clear that she wasn’t down in the dumps.

“I don’t mean it to sound like I’m half-happy. Yesterday I was a 10, tomorrow I might be an 8, this afternoon I might be a 3 and tonight I might be an 11. I just have a lot on my plate right now, and it’s hard to figure out the puzzle pieces for the next year of my life.”

It seems Drew is taking things day by day, and given her recent Instagram postings, the actress turned producer/director had a great Mother’s Day. It looks like Drew and Will are keeping their promise that they will co-parent in a positive environment despite the fact that their divorce was a “slow burn” that lasted for a year before they made their split official.

When they announced the news, the couple made a joint statement that cleared the air before any reports surfaced of a bitter battle.

“Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.”

According to reports, the two fought about where to live. Kopelman, who’s from New York, had convinced Barrymore to live in Manhattan and raise a family on the east coast. Allegedly, this was a hard pill to swallow, and even though their children attend school on the east coast, Barrymore’s west coast roots were strong, and she felt more in touch with the “free spirit” of California. For the time being, both parents remain in New York to raise their family.

Different sources told E! Online of their problems.

“She’s so hippie-dippy and all over the place and it started to become unbearable for him. She just didn’t fit in.”
