It’s safe to say Johnny Depp is not a fan of Australian officials after having to tape an apology to Australia in lieu of the hot water his wife Amber Heard was under. As we know, Heard faced multiple charges for smuggling her dogs into the country during a recent stay. In order to get ahead of these charges, the two taped an apology video.

Many noted that instead of looking and sounding sincere, the two awkwardly seemed frozen and looked like they were reading off of cue cards. In the video, Depp and Heard said, “Australia is a wonderful island, with a treasure trove of plants, animals and people.”

Depp stated, “It has to be protected.” Heard continued, “Australia is free of many pets and diseases that are common around the world. That is why Australia has to have strong bio security laws.”

“Australia is unique — both warm and direct. When you disrespect Australian law they will tell you firmly,” said Depp. Then came the actual apology from Heard, “I am very sorry that Pistol and Boo were not declared. Protecting Australia is important.” Depp finished the video by saying, “Declare everything before you enter Australia. Thanks.”

Needless to say, the apology didn’t sound genuine. It was talked about so much that others started to mock the video by making their own “apology videos.” With that considered, it was only a matter of time before Depp spoke about the apology video seen around the world.

Johnny Depp decided to mock the video at a recent press conference, while on his press tour for Alice Through the Looking Glass. When asked about the whole ordeal, Depp joked, “I really would like to … I will do this everywhere I go. I would really like to apologize for not smuggling my dogs into England, because it would have been a bad thing to do.”

In typical Depp fashion, the actor then trailed off by saying, “Because the Australians … Though chipper, and … you know.”

Of the case against Amber Heard, the minister said in a statement:

“There is a process if you want to bring animals: you get the permits, they go into quarantine and then you can have them. But if we start letting movie stars—even though they’ve been the Sexiest Man Alive twice—to come into our nation [and break the laws], then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?”

The last we’ve heard about the case, Amber Heard, Depp’s wife, plead guilty to making a false statement to immigration in regard to her Yorkshire terriers. At the time, Amber was being charged with illegal importation. If she was convicted of these charges, there was a good probability that Amber would spend up to ten years in jail or pay a fine of $265,000.

That said, due to Heard and Depp pleading guilty at the Southport Magistrate’s Court, the charges were dropped. As reported, Heard brought her two dogs over by a private plane when she was visiting Depp in May of 2015. At the time, Depp was filming the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

After the dogs were noticed by a local dog groomer, a hoopla ensued, and the case made international headlines. After that, the pups were removed from Australia and Heard said she would never return to that specific area of Australia. According to the couple’s lawyers, the two thought that they had papers for their dogs when they were brought over to Australia. As theInquisitr reported, instead of jail time, Amber will have a “one-month good behavior bond” without being convicted for falsifying an arrival card.
