McCain Backs Trump Despite Past Insults: Says Trump ‘Emphasizes’ American Leadership

John McCain has spoken up about his stance in regards to Donald Trump and the other presidential candidates. He says that Trump is, essentially, the best option we’ve got; that, in relation to the other candidates, Donald offers the most for America and for her future.

McCain stated that it would be unwise not to acknowledge the wishes and opinions of the voters, even though there is a great divide between their opinions and those of the Republicans in Washington, D.C.

“You have to draw the conclusion that there is some distance, if not a disconnect, between party leaders and members of Congress and the many voters who have selected Donald Trump to be the nominee of the party. You have to listen to people that have chosen the nominee of our Republican Party. I think it would be foolish to ignore them.”

However, as the Wall Street Journal reported, McCain has had some issues with the manners and social skills of Trump and of his entire campaign in general.

“Frankly, I have never seen the personalization of a campaign like this one, where people’s integrity and character are questioned. It bothers me a lot. Because you can almost violently disagree with an issue, but to attack their character and their integrity – then those wounds take a long time to heal.”

In particular, the Arizona Senator accused Donald of his statements regarding veterans and prisoners of war.

“I think it’s important for Donald Trump to express his appreciation for veterans, not John McCain, but veterans who were incarcerated as prisoners of war.”

“The comment by McCain, who was captured and tortured by the North Vietnamese in the Vietnam War, refers to Trump’s shocking attack on the senator last year, when he said the following regarding prisoners of war: ‘I like people that weren’t captured,'” Israel National News explained.

McCain stressed the fact that he wants an apology from Trump — not for his sake, but because for the sake of the other veterans who fought before him, with him and since then.

“I’d like to see him retract that statement. Not about me, but about the others.”

Israel National News further stated that, according to John McCain, Trump’s strong suit when it comes to foreign policy is that he values and “emphasizes” American leadership, which McCain think is “important.” McCain insinuated that Clinton, on the other hand, does not promise similar signs of American leadership in foreign affairs.

“Hillary Clinton was secretary of state for four years — tell me one accomplishment that she can point to besides she flew more miles than any other secretary of state in history.”

In December, the Inquisitr reported that McCain had called Trump a “propagandist,” as well as “a bully and a thug.”

“Senator McCain has been a critic of Trump in the past, calling into question Trump’s understanding of Syria and international politics, as well as his role in the Republican primary. But the senator’s strong words this weekend were the first time he’s spoken so candidly about Trump.”

In light of past sentiments, can we believe McCain’s change of heart?

“I think it’s obvious that there has to be outreach on his part and heal many of the wounds,” McCain said, but he also claims to believe that Trump has true potential as a “capable” presidential candidate.
