WWE News: Finn Balor Talks Main Roster Call Up, John Cena, And Zack Sabre, Jr

Rumors surrounding the future of former NXT World champion Finn Balor have been running rampant for several months. With his buddies from New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, now in the WWE and Balor recently losing the title to Samoa Joe at a live event, those rumors have intensified.

In a recent live Q&A on Facebook hosted by Tom Phillips, Balor continued to discuss a potential call up to WWE’s main roster — something that both he and wrestling fans have wanted for a long time.

“If that decision was mine, I would have went to the main roster a long time ago,” Balor said. “But that decision is currently not in my hands.”

When Balor does make his inevitable debut on the main roster, he does have goals besides reforming some version of The Bullet Club.

There are several top superstars in WWE that Balor has yet to share a ring with. Names such as Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and AJ Styles come to mind. However, it’s the WWE’s top superstar — who is set to return from shoulder surgery in a few weeks — that Balor would like to wrestle one day.

“John Cena. I’ve wrestled a lot of people that I’ve looked up to and wanted to wrestle for a long time. John is one of the few left that I would love to get a chance to get in the ring with.”

Brock Lesnar is another name that intrigues Balor on the main roster. Balor said he would “absolutely” love to fight “The Beast Incarnate” in a WWE ring. He mentioned meeting Lesnar in NJPW a decade earlier but the two never developed a friendship.

Once Balor leaves NXT, there will be a major void left in the brand. “The Demon” has been a part of the NXT roster since late 2014 and developed into arguably its most popular entity. But there is one name who isn’t currently signed to WWE that Balor feels should be.

“I absolutely think that Zack Sabre Jr. should be signed with NXT. I think he’s got an incredible future and [I] think very soon, his light will shine on the wrestling universe.

Sabre, Jr. will be a part of WWE’s upcoming Cruiserweight Classic tournament, and Balor thinks he will be the winner of the competition.

In the meantime, Balor enjoys his current role on the NXT roster. While Balor may join Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and several other NXT superstars to make a successful jump to the main roster, he’s currently focused on NXT.

“I’m having a lot of fun in NXT and [we’re] building what is one of the most exciting brands in sports entertainment. I’m very happy to be here, to be part of the team and be driving the success that is NXT’s road trips.”

Side Notes

Balor was asked about potentially being a part of a tag team in WWE. He brought up teaming with NXT newcomer Shinsuke Nakamura at recent live events and enjoying that experience. If the team needed a name, Balor said the team would be called “The ShinFin.”

Balor’s favorite superstar on WWE’s main roster is “The Machine Gun” Karl Anderson. The two men go back several years to their early years in NJPW.

Balor’s favorite women’s wrestler is his fellow native of Ireland, Becky Lynch.

Balor mentioned that if “the stars were to align” and Bray Wyatt had the Wyatt Family and Balor had “a certain club,” a match between the factions would be a dream.

When Balor was four, his grandfather was watching wrestling and that eventually led to him becoming a fan of the sport.
