Church Lady: Dana Carvey Revives Iconic ‘SNL’ Character For A ‘Church Chat’ With Trump, Cruz

Church Lady came back for an “isn’t that special?” SNL skit Saturday night.

Dana Carvey returned to Saturday Night Live last night, along with his iconic “Church Lady” character, to have a memorable “Church Chat” with Donald Trump (Darrell Hammond) and Ted Cruz (Taran Killam).

As reported by Rolling Stone, Carvey revived his beloved Church Lady character, a fan favorite when he was a regular on SNL from 2986 to 1993, to have some fun with Met Ball attendees and have a few words with Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.

As can be seen in Hulu’s video post, Carvey’s Church Lady didn’t miss a beat and jumped right into it.

After Church Lady made fun of the “genital fashions” of Madonna (“Her fanny’s just hanging out”) and Beyoncé, she began her interview with “Satan” himself, Ted Cruz, and “godless liberal Democrat” Donald Trump.

“It’s interesting times in America, right? And now we’ve landed on the exciting presidential matchup between a godless liberal Democrat, and Hillary Clinton.”

When Church Lady turned her attention to Taran Killam as Cruz — or “Lucifer in the flesh,” as he was referred to by Church Lady — it was on, with a few “isn’t that special?” quips thrown in for good measure.

Cruz revealed that his future plans after dropping his bid for the presidency include turning to evil.

“I’ve been told to go to hell so many times, I think it’s time to finally check it out.”

One really good jab at Trump, who told Church Lady he “goes to church all the time, even when it’s not church day,” occurred when Church Lady referred to him as an “orange mannequin” while chatting with Cruz.

“Was it God’s plan for you to be humiliated by an orange mannequin? That’s sort of an odd plan for God to have for you.”

Carvey’s Church Lady interview with “the tangerine tornado,” Darrell Hammond’s Donald J. Trump, centered around a discussion of the GOP nominee’s church-going habits and the criticism the GOP candidate has received.

“Donnie, there are those who say you’re not qualified, and that’s not true. I remember a Celebrity Apprentice episode where Gary Busey didn’t sell enough pancakes and you just said ‘You’re fired.’ And I just thought right then and there, ‘Give this man the nuclear codes.'”

Darrell Hammond’s Trump also revealed that his favorite religious texts are “2 Genesis 2 Furious” and “the part where Jon Snow comes back to life.”

Trump also (sort of) endeared himself to Church Lady with a quote from the Bible:

“Love thy neighbor as thy self, and like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.”

There was even a brief cameo by Kate McKinnon, who nailed it as the latest addition to Trump’s model harem.

The Church Lady, whose real name is “Enid Strict,” always begins her interviews innocently enough, but she eventually calls out her celebrity guests for their various alleged sins.

Dressed in a matching blue and purple sweater/dress set, visible knee-high stockings, and a pair of cat’s eye horn-rimmed glasses, Church Lady is known for the catchphrases, “Well, isn’t that SPE-CIAL?!” “How con-VEEN-ient!” and “Could it be…SATAN?”
