All Hail Selena Gomez, Queen Of Instagram: What We Can All Learn

Selena Gomez is, without a doubt, the queen of Instagram with over 74 million followers. Not even Taylor Swift, her BFF can beat Gomez at her game. How did she get there, and how can she help us?

Vanity Fair recently dissected the manner in which Selena uses Instagram to her advantage, and everyone can learn from these findings. There is no guarantee that all these tips will help users dethrone the premier Instagram user, but it’s worth a try. This is because one’s personality has a lot to do with succeeding on Instagram, and Gomez holds all the aces.

First of all, she is extremely photogenic. But come to think about it, aren’t we all? Hint: Photoshop, filters, makeup, hello? This brings us to the conundrum with Selena Gomez. She is a natural, plus she gets a lot of help from Pantene and other beauty product sponsors who are only too eager to supply her with everything she needs to look beautiful even on her 100th year. At barely 23 years of age, Gomez is just getting started.

But she did not get to her present Instagram position from day one. As VF reveals, it was a conscious and meticulous effort on the part of the “Hands To Myself” singer. The new user’s first impulse is to overwhelm the medium with posts. And this is a big, big mistake; one that tends to trap anyone who is just getting started with the unique social media platform.

It’s like oversharing on Facebook, and from the Selena experience, it doesn’t look like it works on Instagram. Let Selena Gomez show the way, VF suggests.

“She doesn’t post that often. This might seem like a minor point, but we think it actually makes a significant difference when it comes to one’s decision to follow a celebrity (we can think of a whole range of celebrities we’ve considered following only to learn, upon brief perusal, that they post anywhere from 12 to 89 photos the morning after any given event they attend). Gomez has posted a total of 1,131 photos on her account, which is about a fourth of the number the seventh-most-followed Kylie Jenner.”

What VF is trying to suggest is you can’t win Instagram through overposting. Like most social media instruments like Facebook and Twitter, Instagram can detect a phony miles away. Attention: Spammers. There is such a thing as a quality post, which begins with a meticulous attention to the photograph that you are about to upload about yourself. And this is what Selena apparently never fails to do each time she opens her Instagram console.

In other words, the Instagram diva doesn’t care as much about quantity as quality. Just where Selena Gomez got this training, no one knows for sure. But if she learned all this without referring to say, The Huffington Post’s Instagram Handbook, that will definitely make Gomez a wizard. In addition, VF has detected by snooping on the Selena posts that the lady follows the rules to a T, which makes her such a law-abiding Netizen or social networker.

Another way to put this is that Selena Gomez abides by Instagram Netiquette to the letter. Here’s a case in point. VF also examined the way she would caption or otherwise add text to her latest Instagram post. Are you ready for this?

Selena Gomez just doesn’t put words to her posts. A lot of thinking goes into the process. First, she is very much aware not to resort to self-gratification by patting her back in front of the Instagram public.

“The captions of her posts are typically on the self-deprecating side. A recent red-carpet composite was captioned, “last night was fun.” A semi-glam selfie was captioned, “This means we had good lighting…. Right ladies??” She doesn’t go over the top with the self-deprecation, which is appreciated, and there are certainly several caption-less posts of fancy magazine shots or of a ‘Look at me quirkily sipping on this iced coffee’ nature, but she generally seems to have a bemused take on her rare station in life.”

Like we mentioned earlier, Selena is Selena. You don’t need to join the Selena Gomez movement to succeed at Instagram or all social media for that matter. The tips which VF has been able to extract from all Selena posts can be followed or applied by just about anybody on the internet.

One thing we must never forget, though, is that our posts acquire a personality of their own. In other words, you are what you post. Selena Gomez posts reveal a very warm, gracious, fair and meticulous Instagram personality. So what about yours?
