Kelly Shoppach’s Twitter Account Confirms Claim About Bobby Valentine Meeting

Kelly Shoppach had nothing to do with the July 26th meeting between Boston Red Sox players and management about skipper Bobby Valentine. If you don’t believe him, just check his Twitter account.

Shoppach was painted as the ringleader in a recent NY Daily News article, but the former Red Sox catcher (current New York Mets catcher) says that he had nothing to do with the meeting.

Shoppach said:

“I’m really disappointed that my name was even brought up in that… I wasn’t behind any texts. I actually didn’t even attend the meeting. It was on an off day in New York and I stayed back in Texas with my family. I’ve already gotten a few text messages from former teammates apologizing that my name was even brought up in it… Everybody that is involved in that whole situation knows that I had nothing to do with it. So, like I said, I’m a Met now. I’m really excited to be here, around a fun group of guys. And I wish the Red Sox nothing but well. I had a great time while I was there. But I’m a Met now and I’m excited about the opportunity here.”

Shoppach’s story seems to hold up, too. A look back at his Twitter account shows that he was on a plane on July 26th and probably didn’t attend any meeting.

The Red Sox had just finished a three-game series before the meeting about Bobby Valentine and that Shoppach decided to spend his day off in Texas. His flight, according to NESN, was even delayed that day, making it even more unlikely that Shoppach attended the secret meeting.
