‘Teen Wolf’ And ‘Maze Runner’ Futures Uncertain Following Dylan O’Brien Accident

As many fans of Teen Wolf Tv series and The Maze Runner film franchise know, Dylan O’Brien suffered an on-set accident and still remains hospitalized. While cast members and friends are certainly concerned for Dylan, the productions they work on are preparing to move forward and are considering doing that without O’Brien. The actor still remains in serious condition and it seems it may still be a considerable length of time before Dylan is fully recovered and able to return to work.

Teen Wolf Makes Plans To Kill Off Stiles Stilinski And Bring Him Back With A Familiar Face

Teen Wolf had just aired the season 5 finale, when Dylan O’Brien was hit by a moving vehicle on the set of his other project, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, and seriously injured. The vehicle must have been moving at a high speed, because the accident left O’Brien with a concussion, facial fracture, and lacerations. Even now, when Teen Wolf is set to begin production on Season 6, Dylan has a lengthy road of recovery ahead of him, so what is to become of his Teen Wolf character, Stiles Stilinski?

Initially, Teen Wolf producers considered one of two options: either kill off O’Brien’s character altogether or simply move forward without him for awhile, until Dylan was able to return to Teen Wolf. Either option seemed unsavory to fans, and facing an angry fanbase, the Teen Wolf producers are now considering a third option. Rumors suggest that One Direction singer Harry Styles, who had already been recruited for a Teen Wolf role, will be taking over the character of Stiles until Dylan is able to return to the role.

Earlier this year, Dylan O’Brien was asked how he would feel about playing Styles in a One Direction biopic and O’Brien said he would be up for it, though he questioned why anyone would consider him for the role.

“A horrible English accent, probably similar-yet-worse looks, and I couldn’t sing, and I’m probably less cool, too,” Dylan joked. “Glad you got me on your list!” he added.

Dylan O’Brien’s Maze Runner Co-Star Speaks About The Actor’s Return

Dexter Darden, who plays Frypan in the Maze Runner franchise, revealed that, while production has been put on hold, the studio expects a full recovery from O’Brien and will move forward once Dylan is able to return to work. The Maze Runner co-star added that Dylan was one of the hardest working actors he has ever worked with and that he’s looking forward to seeing him back at work.

“Our main goal is to just make sure that Dylan gets better,” said O’Brien’s Maze Runner co-star. “So we’re just supporting him as friends, as cast mates during this time that he’s healing. And then as soon as he’s healed and ready to go, we’re going to be right back on it for Maze Runner 3.”

Darden also commented on the condition of O’Brien’s face, since the accident resulted in Dylan suffering three broken bones in his facial structure. The Maze Runner actor said Dylan looks fine.

“He’s dashingly good looking. He looks fine!”

While 20th Century Fox is understandably eager to resume production, the studio has said that replacing O’Brien after two successful installments in the Maze Runner franchise would be inconceivable. Fox executives had been planning to return to production with Dylan O’Brien by May 9, but recently revised that estimate, stating that production on The Maze Runner: The Death Cure was delayed indefinitely. In a statement, the studio revealed that they hadn’t realized just how serious O’Brien’s injuries had been.

“His injuries are very serious, and he needs more time to recover,” O’Brien’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, said in a statement.
