Anna Kendrick Could Be The Female Lead In ‘Captain America 2’

Actress Anna Kendrick, known for her work in Up in the Air, 50/50, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is currently on the short list to tackle the female lead in the upcoming Captain America sequel. Cinema Blend reports that Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones are on this list, as well, though details about the role are few and far between.

According to The New York Post, filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo will tackle the follow-up, which won’t see the inside of a darkened theater until 2014. The duo will take over directing duties from Joe Johnston, who is presently rumored to be helming the Steven Spielberg-produced dinosaur flick Jurassic Park IV.

Since the sequel to the World War II-era actioner takes place in modern day, an slight change-up to the cast is to be expected. However, word around movie gossip sites is that Cap’s sidekick Bucky may return as a villain, though nothing has been officially confirmed by the studio. In fact, very little is known about the project itself, outside of a few casting announcements.

Captain America tells the story of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), a 98-pound weakling who desperately wants to join the Army and serve his country. In an effort to become a better soldier, Rogers agrees to participate in a government program that will ultimately transform the little guy into a strapping, Nazi-fighting superhero.

The adventures of Captain America continued in director Joss Whedon’s massive box office hit The Avengers, a film which famously brought together a vast array of Marvel characters. Since its release last May, the film has enjoyed a worldwide total of $1.4 billion. Not surprisingly, Whedon has been tapped by Marvel to direct the sequel.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which see Chris Evans reprising his role as the titular superhero, is slated to arrive in theaters on April 4, 2014.

Do you think Anna Kendrick would be a good addition to the Captain American franchise?
