NBA Rumors: New York Knicks Hiring Frank Vogel

NBA rumors have been swirling around Frank Vogel. After being informed yesterday by team president Larry Bird that his contract would not be renewed, Frank Vogel is out as the head coach of the Indiana Pacers. According to FanSided, the New York Knicks are currently looking for a new head coach. Hiring Vogel would be an excellent addition for the Knicks.

Frank Vogel has done an excellent job as the head coach of the Indiana Pacers. He has won a total of 250 games. He is currently the franchise’s all time leader in NBA wins. Vogel has led Indiana to the NBA Playoffs in five of his six seasons. The Pacers have been to the Conference Finals twice with Vogel. He has proven that he’s a good coach in the National Basketball Association.

Frank Vogel is a young, defensive minded head coach. He would help the New York Knicks improve on the defensive end of the court. The problem with Vogel is that he doesn’t run the Triangle Offense. Phil Jackson would prefer to hire a coach who would run his system. According to Louisville head coach Rick Pitino, Vogel would fit anywhere in the NBA. He is an adaptable head coach. Vogel would be able to adjust to running the Triangle Offense.

Last summer, Larry Bird wanted to play Paul George more at the power forward position. George expressed discontent with that idea. Frank Vogel decided to listen to his star player. He played George more minutes at small forward, which is his preferred spot. In the NBA, head coaches would like to keep their star players happy because it earns the trust of other players. Vogel has a reputation of being a player-friendly coach.

The New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony has expressed that he would like to have an input to who the new head coach is going to be. In mid-April, Anthony stated he would like the team to hire Tom Thibodeau. He wanted a defensive-minded head coach and someone who can have a good relationships with the players. Thibodeau has been hired by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Frank Vogel is currently available to talk to other teams. He would be the ideal coach for Anthony. The main question will be if Phil Jackson will ask Carmelo for his opinion.

The Indiana Pacers drafted Myles Turner with 11th overall selection in the NBA Draft. Not too many people expected him to develop as fast as he did. This season, Turner averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. The former Texas Longhorns star has shown flashes of someone who could become a second star to team up with Paul George. Frank Vogel had a big part of Turner’s development.

If Frank Vogel decides to coach the New York Knicks, he will have a young promising big man in Kristaps Porzingis. The fourth overall selection in the NBA Draft has proven to be quite an asset for the Knicks. New York has made it known that Kristaps is the centerpiece of the future. This season, he averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. Porzingis had an amazing rookie year.

Frank Vogel is out in Indiana. The New York Knicks are in need of a new head coach. A marriage between the two sides makes a lot of sense. It could be the thing that helps the Knicks finally get back to the NBA Playoffs.
