‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 9 Finale Spoilers: Leonard And Penny’s Traditional Wedding, Season 10 Renewal

The Big Bang Theory Season 9 finale will air this Thursday, May 12. According to the official synopsis and latest spoilers for Episode 24, titled, “The Convergence Convergence,” will see Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) tie the knot again, but this time with their parents and friends invited to witness the ceremony in person.

In the last episode of The Big Bang Theory Season 9, Leonard’s mom, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter (Christine Baranski), admitted that she was upset that the couple did not invite her to their wedding. To make it up to her, Penny promised a do-over, this time inviting all their family and closest friends. Even Sheldon’s Christian mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), will end up coming to the ceremony.

According to International Business Times,Penny and Leonard will be holding a traditional wedding ceremony this time around. He will also end up inviting his father Alfred (Judd Hirsch). Given that Beverly and Alfred recently got divorced, things are definitely bound to get awkward between them. Could Sheldon’s mom, Mary, eventually help the couple get back together?

Meanwhile, in the midst of wedding preparations, Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) will once again get themselves in trouble. According to the plot synopsis for Episode 24, “The Convergence Convergence,” the duo were contacted by the government to know more about the guidance system they have been working on. In true Howard and Raj fashion, they ended up blowing things out of proportion and think that the U.S. government is out to get them for their technology.

In other news, The Wrap reported that the recent episode of The Big Bang Theory Season 9 hit an eight-year low. Episode 23, “The Line Substitution Solution,” had a 2.9 rating, drawing in 12.9 million total viewers. In spite of the 12 percent decline, CBS still ended up winning over ABC, NBC, and Fox, among others, based on last Thursday’s ratings.

While scoring a 2.9 rating is clearly not something to look down on, Unreality TV pointed out that The Big Bang Theory has consistently scored a 4.0 rating in the key demographic. Although there were quite a few good episodes in the last season, some cannot help but wonder if the series is on a decline.

Fans of The Big Bang Theory, however, still have another season to look forward to. CBS previously gave the show a 3-season renewal. While some assumed that the show will come to an end by season 10, the outlet held that TBBT executive producer Steve Molaro previously said that he is very much willing to go beyond ten seasons.

“If the cast members are happy to continue, there are still stories to tell, and the demand is still there from the viewers, then the show will more than likely carry on.”

The Big Bang Theory show creator Chuck Lorre echoed the same sentiments. He also admitted that he never thought The Big Bang Theory would last for as long as it has.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he explained that the story of Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon is far from over.

“It’s already gone beyond my wildest dreams so anything beyond this … as long as everybody is having a good time and we’re making a show we’re proud of … then it’s worth continuing.”
