Chris Matthews’ Hot Mic Moment Comments About Melania Trump’s ‘Runway Walk’ Spark Intense Backlash

Chris Matthews was caught making some intimate comments about Melania Trump’s physique during a hot mic moment on Tuesday evening.

“Did you see her walk? Runway walk. My God is that good,” said Chris Matthews, a news host for MSNBC. “I could watch that runway show.”

Chris Matthews’ Melanie Trump comment has sparked heated debate on social media. While feminist groups have not yet chastised the Hard Ball host publicly, Donald Trump fans and Republicans have been sharing their displeasure about the “runway walk” hot mic moment since it viral.

Matthews’ comments were made in reference to the scene unfolding at Donald Trump’s speech after his landslide win in the Indiana primary. Ted Cruz dropped out of the race after the results rolled in, making the outsider candidate the presumptive Republican nominee.

Chris Matthew’s election night coverage co-host Brian Williams quickly cut to commercial after the Melania Trump hot mic moment, Fox News reports.

John Kasich, the only other candidate in the race at that time, was actually in fourth place in the three-man race. Marco Rubio threw in the towel more than a month prior but still had more pledged delegates than the Ohio Governor, who suspended his campaign the day after the Indiana primary.

Neither Melania Trump nor her Republican presidential presumptive nominee husband, Donald Trump, have responded to the runway walk comment by Chris Matthews.

A representative for Mrs. Trump did make a statement about the hot mic to the media vie email, CNN reports.

“[Melanie Trump] is an accomplished businesswoman and entrepreneur in her own right,” the spokesperson said.

The email statement also stated it was “unfortunate” that the media has continued to utter “inaccuracies and misrepresentations” of Melania. Mrs. Trump is an “independently successful woman” in her own right, the release added.

The Melania Trump runway walk comment is not the first time Chris Matthews has been the subject of public backlash over his utterances about women over the years.

In 2011, Matthews said Sarah Palin could be “hotter as a candidate” but added that her looks are “obviously very attractive.” The Democrat also added there was “something electric” about the way Palin walks, according to People magazine.

The MSNBC media personality once bashed Hillary Clinton when he compared her to the Nurse Ratched character in the cult classic film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Several years prior to the movie reference critique of the former First Lady, Matthews described Clinton’s appearance as “witchy.”

When discussing the possibility of a woman being elected president, Chris Matthews reportedly said he felt it would be difficult for a female to serve as the commander-in-chief.

“I was thinking how hard it is for a woman to take on a job that’s always been held by men,” Matthews stated after Hillary Clinton was re-elected as the Senator of New York in 2006. “We were watching Hillary Clinton earlier tonight. She was giving a campaign barn burner speech, which is harder to give for a woman. It can grate on some men when they listen to it, fingernails on a blackboard, perhaps.”

More than a decade ago Chris Matthews was involved in a televised discussion with Erin Burnett, who works for CNN, and also referenced her looks during the chat about politics.

“Come a little closer to the camera. Look at that look! You’re great. You’re beautiful. I’m just kidding. You’re a knockout. Anyway, thank you, Erin Burnett. It’s all right getting bad news from you,” Matthews said during the 2001 exchange.

Matthews also garnered national attention and a vast amount of ridicule when he said he got a “tingle down his leg” after Barack Obama was elected president.
