Katy Perry Is On A Break: Did She Take A Dig At Taylor Swift?

Katy Perry is taking a break from music and possibly taking a dig at arch enemy Taylor Swift.

Prior to the 2016 Met Gala, Katy Perry sat down for an interview with Mashable, in which she talked about body image. The 31-year-old pop star also revealed that she’s taking a break from music. The message sounds similar to what Taylor Swift said about taking time off from making music. Perry also revealed that she has fears that people will get sick of her.

“I’m still the HBIC of Twitter. I’m not trying to feed the meter so much these days. I did that for so long. I think when I come back and have more to say and want to tell certain stories, I want to be all out. I think it’s time to take a break, there’s a thing called being super overexposed. You want people to miss you.”

Fans have been waiting for the follow-up to her 2013 release, Prism. Despite the rumors that Katy was working on a country album and penning a song about her arch enemy, she says that fans will have to wait even longer for a new album. Back in November, Taylor revealed to NME magazine in her cover story that she was planning to take a break after her 1989 World Tour.

Before going platinum blonde and grunge, the fellow pop star genuinely didn’t know what she had planned for the future.

“I think I should take some time off. I think people might need a break from me. I’m going to… I don’t know. Hang out with my friends. Write new music. Maybe not write new music. I don’t know.”

Boyfriend DJ Calvin Harris also confirmed the break rumors in his latest interview with Ryan Seacrest. Swift also mentioned in her Vogue cover story that she would like to learn how to make a cocktail and possibly learn CPR while on her break. Some fans would think that Perry’s quote was a dig at Swift’s nonstop talks about taking a break. But that’s still up for debate.

The dueling divas both attended this year’s Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night. Since both Katy and Taylor were invited, fans wondered if the two had an awkward run-in at the event. An alleged eyewitness told celebrity gossip blog the Hollywood Life what really went down.

“Katy was worried only about her outfit at the MET Ball, she didn’t have any time to worry about running into Taylor or have an awkward encounter, plus it is easy to avoid people if you really need to. She didn’t have Taylor on her mind, she was a non-factor in her preparation or fun or lack thereof for the night.”

It seems like both pop divas were too focused on the party to take part in any drama. Perry arrived with boyfriend Orlando Bloom and her own friends, while Swift partied the night away with Karlie Kloss, Beyoncé, and Solange Knowles.

Meanwhile, in the Mashable interview, the “Birthday” singer also revealed that she thinks society is finally accepting when it comes to women’s body, especially in the media.

“There have been decades of bad messaging and we are rewiring now. Gone are the days where you are not socially aware. You can’t unsee all that crazy stuff and not try to do something to change it.”

Katy went on to explain that she embraces her own curves, but wouldn’t be quick to label someone else’s body.

“I think owning the terms is on an individual basis. It’s about what you want to call yourself. We don’t see ourselves in the same way. I know for me, I’m curvy, I’m not sample size, but I represent a lot of people out there. I want to be relatable. That’s really important to me, while not losing my mind in this weird human experiment I’m going through.”
