Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez: Loving Friends Or Feuding Divas?
Taylor Swift chose to bring Selena Gomez as her date to the 2016 Met Gala. It makes sense since they have been lifelong best friends.
When the “Hands to Myself” singer was asked by Access Hollywood who she was bringing as her date to Monday night’s big event, she said that she was already going with her BFF Taylor Swift.
“We’re going together. It’s so fun. It’s going to be the best. It’s like kind of prom for fashion,” Gomez added.
But fans are speculating that something happened between the two friends prior to the event. According to J-14 Magazine, Swift, 26, and Gomez, 23, arrived in separate cars, at different times. Not only did they not arrive together, but they also did not walk the red carpet together. Swift and Gomez didn’t even pose for pictures together at the 2016 Met Gala, like they did at the 2016 Grammys. An eyewitness hinted on Twitter as to why there are no photos of Swift and Gomez together.
According to E! Online, the “Out of the Woods” singer attended Apple’s after-party at The Standard’s Boom Boom Room before she had a pizza party with the Haim sisters. And Swift was noticeably absent from the Louis Vuitton group photo below. Both friends were wearing LV that night, but Gomez was seen schmoozing with Miranda Kerr instead.
Taylor Swift previously denied the feud rumors in her September 2014 cover story for Rolling Stone.
“People think they have my relationships all mapped out. There were all these blogs like, ‘Are they feuding? Are they fighting?’ Meanwhile Selena and I would be on the phone that night, laughing about it. We let them have that one.”
But Swift and Gomez did seem happy at the 2016 Grammys, and when they reunited at Camila Cabellos’ birthday party, and again at the 2016 iHeart Radio Music Awards. The reason why the two didn’t spend time together at the Met Gala doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re feuding, according to E! Online.
“To the naked eye it didn’t look as if they were together, but maybe there was a tacit agreement between them to be together in spirit as they went off and did their own things. They were both wearing Louis Vuitton after all, so they started off the evening as label mates. And Taylor, as a Met Gala co-chair this year, had to arrive on the early side and was one of the first major stars to walk the carpet before heading inside to help welcome the guests.”
Keep in mind that the two have been friends ever since Selena was 13 and Taylor was 16. They seem like the type of best friends who go on their separate lives and always find their way back to each other.
Early last month, the Hollywood Life speculated that Justin Bieber was once again the reason for the rift in their friendship. Swift has been desperately trying to get Gomez to say goodbye to her ex for good. If the insider is correct, then something happened at the 2016 iHeart Radio Awards that made them change their minds about being each other’s dates at the Met Gala.
“Taylor has been pretty quiet about voicing her opinion on Justin, but she’s now speaking up about him again to Selena. After what he pulled at the iHeartRadio Awards, Taylor really wants her to cut ties with Justin once and for all. None of this back and forth stuff.”
