Prince Harry On Princess Diana: ‘Every Day I Wonder What It Would Be Like If She Was Here’

In the wake of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry has been nostalgic for his mother, Princess Diana.

Prior to Sunday’s games in Orlando, Florida, Prince Harry appeared on Good Morning Britain, where he spoke about his mother and his humanitarian work, reported Newsweek.

“It’s a great shame she’s not here but every day I wonder what it would be like if she was here, what she would say and how she’d be making everyone laugh.”

Such as Princess Diana, her son Harry is also known for his charity work. The prince was seen with U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama at the opening day of the Invictus Games, an event created by him, wrote Newsweek. The games give wounded and ill veterans the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting events.

In hosting the Invictus Games, Prince Harry hopes to fill the “void” his mother left behind in her tragic death, he told Susanna Reid of Good Morning Britain. When asked by Reid about fulfilling his mother’s legacy, he admitted that he’s never felt “pressure to fill her boots” simply because he claims he’ll “never be able to do that.”

While the young bachelor claims he will never match his mother’s legacy, he explained that even if he could fill “a small void,” that’s still “mission success for me,” he said on Good Morning Britain.

Although the 20th anniversary of her death is more than a year away, Prince Harry and his brother, William, hope to commemorate the larger-than-life figure in the best way possible, Harry told Hello! magazine.

“We want to make sure that there’s something that she’s remembered by and there’s certainly not enough on the right scale in London or anywhere in the UK, that she’s remembered for.”

Prince Harry also added that it would be “very fitting on the 20th anniversary to have something that is going to last forever and is a proper recognition of what she did when she was alive,” he said in his interview with Hello! magazine.

Despite the loss of their mother, Prince Harry and William remain close to their grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. Last month, the Queen and Harry teamed up to produce a promotional video for the Invictus Games. When asking her to participate in the video, Harry claims she was “more than happy to oblige,” he told the Huffington Post.

Although Prince Harry and his grandmother can have fun together, he still knows who’s boss. According to People Magazine, Harry claims that his relationship “isn’t quite like normal grandparent-grandchild relationships,” he said in Elizabeth at 90, a recently released documentary about the Queen.

“I still view her more as the Queen than my grandmother…You have this huge amount of respect for your boss and I always view her as my boss, but occasionally as a grandmother.”

Such as Prince Harry feels about his mother, he also admits to struggling to fill the standards of his grandmother.

“You think to yourself, ‘How can I ever fulfill this huge expectation that comes with her and being a member of her family.'”

Still, Prince Harry has claimed to strike a balance between viewing Queen Elizabeth as his grandmother and the Queen. According to the International Business Times, when he views his grandmother through a familial lens, he can have access to her advice and “suck all that information out of her and all that experience she’s had for so long.”
