Maryland High School Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured [Update]

Update:

According to Reuters, the shooting that took place on Thursday at a high school in Beltsville, Maryland has been ruled a “domestic-related homicide.” The woman who was killed apparently knew the male shooter, and the other man who was injured during the incident was only shot after he tried to intervene between the woman and the gunman.

Police Chief Henry Stawinski spoke at a news conference Thursday night, and gave details about what happened at High Point High School. The shooting suspect reportedly fired once at the bystander, hitting him in the shoulder, before turning the gun on the woman, who he then shot multiple times.

Kevin Maxwell, chief executive officer of Prince George’s County Public Schools, said there were no students involved in the shooting. Although several students witnessed the shooting, none were injured.

According to WUSA9, the woman was identified as 44-year-old Gladys Tordil, and the gunman was identified as her estranged husband 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil. Their daughters Grace and Nikki Tordil are both seniors at High Point High School, and Gladys was a chemistry teachers at Parkdale High School in Prince George’s County.

Grace and Nikki were planning on attending the University of Maryland College Park and the University of Maryland Baltimore County next year, and with the death of their mother, they now need help paying for tuition. A friend of the family set up a GoFundMe page for people to donate money for their education expenses.

“Nikki and Grace, who were on their way to college, are in a difficult financial situation,” the fundraising page reads. “We ask that you donate towards our cause of making sure they are financially stable as they go to achieve their dreams at college. ”

On Friday, an update was shared on the GoFundMe page, revealing that both Nikki and Grace had been promised funding for college tuition. However, they will still need assistance with other expenses, such as books, food and clothing.
