Rita Ora Really Wants You To Know That She’s Not ‘Becky’

Rita Ora really wants her fans to know that she’s not the “Becky with the good hair.” The British pop star has been desperately trying to squash the rumors that she’s involved with Beyonce and Jay Z’s marital problems.

It all started when Rita Ora posted a Snapchat photo of herself wearing a”J” necklace and lemon-emblazed bra for the brand Tezenis. This was days before Beyoncé’s new visual album, Lemonade, dropped on Tidal, but it made fans wonder if this was a response to the Jay Z affair rumors that have been following her for years.

Then Rita Ora took things to a whole other level when she stepped out in the same Gucci outfit that Beyoncé wore in her “Formation” music video. Ora put her own twist by leaving the shirt unbuttoned so that she could show off her bright yellow bra. Then she made things worse when she posted a now-deleted Instagram photo of the Elizabeth Taylor film, Ash Wednesday, which is about a woman who undergoes plastic surgery in order to win back her straying husband.

After she was hounded by Bey’s faithful fans, the “Poison” singer put the rumors to rest again on Twitter. In a series of tweets, she wrote: “I never usually address tabloid gossip, but let me be clear. These rumours are false. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Beyonce. Let’s continue enjoying Lemonade. (sic)”

Then, on Monday night at the Met Gala, Ora shared a photo of herself with a smiling Beyoncé inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and shared it via Snapchat, adding a heart emoji. On the photo, she captioned it: “Family.”

Later that night, Ora was seen wearing a “Not Becky” pin to a Met Gal after-party. Fellow pop star Katy Perry wore a similar pin at a separate after-party.

Though Rita Ora has been trying to put a rest to the rumors, her cousin is speaking out about the alleged affair. Dorotea, 23, who lives in Ora’s hometown of Kosovo, defended her cousin who has received plenty of backlash from the Beyhive in recent weeks.

“[The rumour] is rubbish. She posted ‘family,’ which means they’re still on good relations. Beyonce is a queen. They really helped her to become who she is and were the first ones to notice her,” she said in an interview to Daily Mail Online.

“Rita clearly states that they are the ones that helped her with Roc Nation so it’s such a pity to doubt that relationship. It’s absurd,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Ora’s father’s cousin, Valdet, added: “She respects them both [Beyonce and Jay Z] and in showbusiness there are these rumours. It’s just gossip. But if you’re touring then you expect [gossip] on the road, and she asked for this career.”

Both of the cousins haven’t seen Ora since she was 10-years-old in 2011. They tried to get a glimpse of her when she was a judge on the U.K.’s X Factor, but security banned them from ever seeing her.

“I had to sneak in and take some photos of Rita, but they told us if we catch you one more time we’re going to kick you out,” Dorotea explained.

Rita Ora previously denied the Jay Z affair rumors in a 2014 interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. She showed a lot of respect for the couple, including Queen Bey herself.

“Don’t you dare disrespect Beyonce like that ever again in your entire life. You should know better than that…that’s just straight up disrespect. You can’t even go there.”

Talk of an affair between Jay Z and Ora have been spiraling for years. Jay first signed Ora to his Roc Nation label in 2009 when she was just 19-years-old. There were also the reports which claimed that the two exchanged sex for a record deal. Nowadays, Ora has been trying to break free from her contract with Roc Nation, claiming they set her music career aside to focus on other projects.
