Alabama Krispy Kreme Opens Tuesday, Offers Free Doughnuts And Other Prizes To First Customers

An Auburn, Alabama, Krispy Kreme is offering an incentive to get customers in the door early next week. The first 100 people through the doors on Tuesday will get free doughnuts and other prizes, so residents of Auburn and Opelika will have a sweet reason to show up early and possibly be the hero of the office or classroom.

Apparently, people wanting a doughnut in that area previously had to drive over 30 miles, and for many, that’s a long distance to cover for a pastry. Most consumers won’t drive more than five miles to buy food they don’t need unless they live in a small town where it’s the only option, and they have an undying craving.

People who want to take advantage of the Auburn, Alabama, Krispy Kreme grand opening will need to camp outside the store on Monday, and not everyone will be accepted. Starting at 4 p.m. the previous day, any customer hoping to win their free doughnuts will need to register for the chance to camp, and no admission will be given to anyone under the age of ten.

Yes, this also means that some lucky Alabamans will be the breakfast hero for the class on Tuesday morning, May 10. They might want to bring whatever homework they have with them to finish while they spend the night.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., although the first 100 customers through the door will win a free dozen original glazed doughnuts every month for a year. Customer number one will win the same thing, but a dozen a week. The first 200 will receive a free commemorative T-shirt celebrating the grand opening of the Alabama Krispy Kreme in Auburn.

Those in line for registration on Monday will be eligible for other free prizes, adding an extra incentive to spend the night.

The store was originally announced in July 2015, but construction had been delayed due to the need to replace a storm drain. Now, with Auburn and Opelika residents finally getting their chance to enjoy the glazed, light goodness of a Krispy Kreme doughnut without traveling miles out of their way for it, the Auburn Mall is hoping to revitalize commerce in the area, and parts of the mall will be renovated, as well. Hull Property Group plans on adding ten more stores and make businesses more local for the Eastern Alabama location.

This will be the second major doughnut retail chain to hit the area this year. Dunkin’ Donuts also recently opened a new location at Gateway Drive and Pepperil Parkway in Opelika. They are about to have healthy competition from Krispy Kreme as the newcomer to the area is certainly looking to grab some of Dunkin’ Donuts’ business starting next Tuesday.

The 1611 Opelika Road location will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. The drive-thru will be open 24 hours. The free doughnut giveaway on Tuesday, May 10, will exclude the drive-thru to encourage customers to enter the store

Doughnut aficionados in Auburn, Alabama, will finally have two choices next week. One of them could end up free as long as they have the chance and the endurance to camp overnight at the new Opelika Road Krispy Kreme location.
