WWE Rumors: Huge Changes Coming To Women’s Division — Brand New ‘Diva Search’ To Happen This Year

At WrestleMania 32, the Divas division was officially retired along with the purple butterfly belt. The WWE Women’s Championship and division were introduced, and now there were no longer divas, but strictly superstars. That was the start of a complete overhaul to the division as many more changes are coming, and it even means a revamped and different Diva Search competition which will take place later this year.

All of the higher-ranking officials in WWE are behind the major changes happening to the women’s division. They want all those in WWE, male or female, to be referred to as superstars and now use the term “Divas” when it comes to the in-ring talent. Well, it won’t be used on WWE television, but it will be for the reality show Total Divas.

Vince McMahon and many others are excited about the changes coming to the division and having it prosper going forward. In much the same way that Triple H has taken NXT under his wing and made it his baby, there will be someone doing that with the women’s division as well.

Daily Wrestling News is reporting that Stephanie McMahon is working hard on turning the division around and has a number of other ideas to make that happen. One of them is actually coming up with a revamped and new version of the Diva Search that took place for a number of years.

The official WWE Divas Search took place over the course of four years (2004-2007) and it was a talent competition where winners would receive a WWE contract. It was a bit more of a reality television-type contest than anything else, but it did bring about some great talent as well.

The new version of the contest would likely be called something else, and this time, it would focus on in-ring talent. Instead of doing some type of looks and personality contest, it would be devoted to the women superstars who are good in the ring.

It’s not exactly known when the competition would start, but it could very well be by the end of this year.

Some rather talented superstars ended up coming from the old Diva Search competitions including Christy Hemme, Maria Kanellis, Layla, The Bella Twins, Maryse, and Michelle McCool.

A lot has changed over the last couple of years, and there are a number of huge talents currently in the WWE women’s division. Charlotte is just one example, but names like Becky Lynch, Emma, Sasha, Banks, Tamina Snuka, and Paige make it one of the most competitive divisions ever.

Total Divas is continuing on and the reality TV aspect of things will continue to be focused on with that show. As Wrestling Inc. recently reported, some cast changes have been made as Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, and Mandy Rose are not on Season 5, while Lana, Renee Young, and Maryse have been added.

The new title and re-branding of the Divas division to that of the WWE women’s division was just the start of the big changes. Stephanie McMahon is likely going to step up her involvement in the matters and make sure it’s a respected division once again.

Fans have been longing for the days when there were women’s matches in WWE that included Lita, Mickie James, and Trish Stratus. Now, it seems like they will get some of those quality matches again.

WWE is really looking to veer away from the reality television aspect of things with the women’s division, and that is a big reason that the new championship was introduced. Divas will be what the reality TV stars are referred to, but when they’re in the ring, they will be superstars. Stephanie McMahon appears to be taking a lot of this on her shoulders much in the way Triple H has done so with NXT, and that is leading to bigger things and the revamped Diva Search competition.
