Kate Middleton On Being Her Family’s Photographer And Being As Down To Earth As They Come

Kate Middleton found herself on this month’s cover of British Vogue, and the editor-in-chief, Alexandra Shulman, was able to sit down with the Duchess to find out some candid details about the beauty and her family life with her prince and little royals.

The 10-page shoot and interview gave a plethora of adorable new details about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Being one of the world’s most photographed women has meant Kate has expected to always be at her best in fashion and manners. However, during her chat, Middleton shares that having children has changed her focus when pictures are being snapped.

The Duchess comments on taking pictures of her children and how she has become less self-conscious and self-aware since having her little prince and princess, George, and Charlotte. Vogue relays Kate’s words on the subject.

“From taking photographs of George and Charlotte, I have been struck by the wonderful lack of self-consciousness that you see in photographs of children, without the self-awareness that adults generally feel.”

Back when Prince George was born, Prince William and Kate Middleton made it known that they are no longer willing to let the press so close to them that pictures of their children can be snapped. In a statement, they requested privacy and for their children to “be free to play in public and semi-public spaces with other children without being photographed.”

For this reason, Kate admits that she has taken on the role as the family’s unofficial photographer. It was the Duchess who most recently snapped pictures of her little Charlotte for the tot’s first birthday celebration. The Duke and Duchess then released the images publicly. The publication reminds of these details.

“Middleton has taken on the role as family photographer, snapping George’s first pictures and the sibling’s first pictures together as a measure to stop the press from interfering in the lives of the young royals.”

It’s clear that the Duchess is extremely down to earth, and her appearance as she drove to the interview is a testament to this. The Daily Mail shares about Kate’s arrival to the interview.

“The Duchess of Cambridge showed just how laid back she is by driving to her Vogue cover shoot wearing rollers. Kate – who arrived on set with her long brunette locks already in curlers – joked with the magazine staff about how she must have looked in the car without even finishing doing her hair. The 34-year-old, who was accompanied by her hairdresser Amanda Tucker, also revealed the rather old fashioned secret to her bouncy glossy locks.”

The Duchess also noted that she wanted photos taken of her to be more of a reflection of her “private existence” and showcase a different side to her and her family’s lifestyle. This meant staying away from glitzy and glamorous evening gowns that she sports to royal events. Instead Kate opted for “jeans, shirts, T-shirts.”

US Weekly relays the relaxed demeanor of Kate despite the chilly air.

“And Shulman paid tribute to her royal photography subject, revealing that the brunette beauty ‘posed uncomplaining, often in a thin cotton shirt’ in the chilly Norfolk, England, location.”

The magazine’ issue, which hits shelves May 5, shows the Duchess in cute overalls in one shot with her usual beaming smile. Kate, who usually does her own makeup, was relaxed about the magazine’s makeup team touching her up. The team later noted that Kate was completely unconcerned about checking herself out in the mirror while they were prepping her for the shoot.

Us Weekly relays the words of Vogue’s makeup artist.

“Vogue makeup artist Sally Branka free rein, ‘scarcely even checking herself in the mirror afterward.'”
