Miranda Kerr Defends Kendall Jenner & Gigi Hadid: How Does Cindy Crawford Feel About Instagram’s Hottest Models?

Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have received a lot of flak for how they achieved fame in the modeling industry. Although it’s undeniable that both models are extremely popular on Instagram, there are some models in the industry who don’t appreciate how these two became famous.

The two beauties have a lot in common. For instance, both Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid come from reality star backgrounds. Kendall Jenner made appearances on episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians long before she took over the fashion runways, while Gigi Hadid’s mom, Yolanda Hadid, stars on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. There’s also no denying that nepotism helped made Jenner, 20, and Hadid, 21, what they are today.

Miranda Kerr is defending the ladies after Rebecca Romijn’s controversial comments in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. At Monday night’s Met Gala, Kerr argued Romijn’s claims that they are “not true supermodels” since they were discovered via social media.

“That’s not very nice. They work hard just like everyone else,” Kerr told the New York Daily News via Entertainment Tonight.

Last week, Romijn made headlines when she commented that Jenner and Hadid shouldn’t be taken seriously as supermodels because of where they came from.

“I know a lot of people — legitimate fashion people — can’t stand it. Hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion. They’re not true supermodels.”

As always, proud mom Yolanda Hadid took to social media to defend both of the models.

“Kind, hard working and they accomplished more at half your age in the fashion industry,” she wrote in a series of tweets last week.

Rebecca Romijn has since backtracked on her previous statements. She said that she was never asked specifically about Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid in the interview.

She also took to Twitter to write, “@kendalljenner @gigihadid don’t believe the #clickbait. Never talked smack about you. Both amazing & beautiful.”

How does Cindy Crawford feel about the famous best friends? She shared some support for Kendall Jenner at the 2016 Met Gala. The two models also partied together at the Coachella Arts & Music Festival last month. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Crawford admits that she’s jealous of both Hadid and Jenner, and not because of their stunning looks.

“I’m so jealous. I feel they have this direct way to communicate with their audience that my generation didn’t have.”

According to Us Weekly, Kendall Jenner currently has 56.1 million Instagram followers, while Gigi Hadid has a humble 17.1 million followers. Cindy added that boasting those impressive numbers on social media comes with a heavy price.

“I think it’s a responsibility, but it’s also a great tool, because they really can be their own publicists. They can present themselves the way that they want to be presented.”

Regardless, models will do whatever they want despite the obvious changes within the industry. Carolyn Murphy, Vogue’s Model of the Year in 1998, says that she can’t keep up with social media.

“I just got reprimanded last week for not Instagramming enough. And I thought that seniority ruled. I thought, ‘Well if I’m almost 43, isn’t that Kendall Jenner’s job?'”

Meanwhile, Amber Valetta has no interest in embracing social media, according to the publication. But she totally credits Kendall and Gigi for the way they handled their image.

“It’s uncomfortable for me that we kind of have to manufacture moments. Even though they are real moments. But at the same time, these girls are really smart and clever, and they figured out how to be brands.”

When Kendall Jenner was featured in an editorial photo shoot for Vogue, she argued that she doesn’t plan anything that she posts on Instagram. She said that she would rather have things happen organically rather than sit around and strategically plan them.

“[My Instagram] has to be organic. You don’t want to do too many posts, You want to leave them wanting to come back… mystery.”
