This Week’s ‘WWE NXT’ & ‘WWE Thursday Night SmackDown’ Spoilers [May 4 & 5]

Note: The following contains spoilers for WWE NXT, airing on May 4, and WWE Thursday Night SmackDown, airing on May 5.

With WWE Payback less than a week behind us and WWE Extreme Rules less than three weeks away, the matches and storylines on this week’s Thursday Night SmackDown will feature many of the same feuds and angles that have been on display since WWE WrestleMania 32 concluded. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns is in the main event, teaming up with The Usos to face The Bullet Club (AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows).

Meanwhile, on WWE NXT, Eric Young makes his debut, letting Samoa Joe know he’s coming for the WWE NXT Championship. Austin Aries is being advertised for the show as well, and top contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championships and NXT Women’s Championship are in action. The spoilers for this week’s episode are followed by the rest of the matches and segments recorded at the same NXT television taping last week at Full Sail University. Participants in those matches include Finn Balor, Austin Aries, Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, Carmella, and American Alpha.

WWE NXT spoilers

The only thing confirmed by WWE.com’s preview of tonight’s NXT is that Austin Aries will be competing. It’s unclear why WWE wouldn’t announce his opponent (Tye Dillinger) or the confrontation (and ensuing match) between Samoa Joe and Eric Young — or at least advertise Samoa Joe if Eric Young’s appearance is meant to be a secret.

NOTE: WWE doesn’t always post a full list of matches for upcoming episodes of WWE NXT, and that is true for this week’s episode as well. According to multiple sources, the following matches and segments for tonight’s episode were taped at Full Sail University on April 28.

  • NXT Champion Samoa Joe’s in-ring promo was interrupted by the debut of Eric Young. EY challenges Joe for the title. Joe said Young doesn’t deserve a title shot. Later in the show, a non-title match is confirmed.
  • Nia Jax pinned Tessa Blanchard (leg drop).
  • Austin Aries pinned Tye Dillinger (450 splash).
  • The Revival defeated the Hype Bros.
  • No Way Jose pinned Noah Kekoa (new finisher).
  • Samoa Joe defeated Eric Young (Coquina Clutch).

The following matches and segments were also taped at Full Sail University on April 28, to be aired on WWE NXT at a later date.

  • Finn Balor’s in-ring promo is interrupted by Elias Samson, setting up a match later in the show.
  • NXT Tag Team Champions American Alpha defeated Corey Hollis & John Skyler (Grand Amplitude).
  • The Revival give full indication that they’re still interested in the NXT Tag Team Championship.
  • Shinsuke Nakamura pinned Alex Riley.
