Indiana Primary 2016 Live Results: Find Up-To-Date Vote Totals From Democratic And Republican Races In The Hoosier State

Viewers can follow live results of the Indiana 2016 primary and see if front-runners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton can effectively end their races and cement their place as the Republican and Democratic candidates for the 2016 presidential election.

Although both Clinton and Trump hold wide leads over their opponents, it has not been enough to end races in what has been an unusual primary season. On the Republican side, the prospect of a contested convention where Ted Cruz can steal the nomination on a second vote means that Donald Trump has to reach the 1,237-delegate threshold to win it outright.

On the Democratic side, challenger Bernie Sanders has refused to drop out despite a nearly insurmountable deficit to Clinton. But with Sanders now starting to fade in national polls, a Clinton win on Tuesday could effectively end his candidacy.

Viewers who follow the Indiana 2016 primary results live online will see a much more important race on the Republican side. Donald Trump has been playing up the importance of Tuesday’s vote all week, saying that a win in the Hoosier State would effectively end the race. While Ted Cruz and John Kasich would still have a chance to keep Trump from the 1,237-delegate threshold no matter what happens on Tuesday, a victory in the winner-take-all state means Trump would take all 57 delegates and put him well on pace to reach that mark — and with some favorable states ahead.

The importance of Indiana even led Cruz and Kasich to enter an unlikely alliance, and they issued a joint announcement last week that their campaigns would be coordinating to stop Donald Trump.

“Having Donald Trump at the top of the ticket in November would be a sure disaster for Republicans. Not only would Trump get blown out by Clinton or Sanders, but having him as our nominee would set the party back a generation,” Cruz’s statement read. “To ensure that we nominate a Republican who can unify the Republican Party and win in November, our campaign will focus its time and resources in Indiana and in turn clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico, and we would hope that allies of both campaigns would follow our lead. In other states holding their elections for the remainder of the primary season, our campaign will continue to compete vigorously to win.”

Ted Cruz has taken to attacking Trump directly, tearing into the real estate mogul in interviews this week. Cruz called Trump “utterly amoral” and a “pathological liar,” launching into a tirade after Trump’s claim that Cruz’s father was involved in assassinating John F. Kennedy.

“This morning, Donald Trump went on national television and attacks my father, alleges my dad was involved in assassinating JFK,” he said (via Deadline). “This is nuts, this is just kooky. I guess I should just admit my dad killed JFK, he is secretly Elvis, and Jimmy Hoffa is buried in his back yard.”

Those who follow the live results of the Indiana primary vote will see if the gambit works. Cruz has fallen behind in recent polls of the Hoosier State, with a NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll (via USA Today) showing Trump with a 15-point lead.
