Gomez went with a sleeveless black and white Nicolas Ghesquiere for Louis Vuitton frock, but it was that leather bodice that got most of the attention. And Selena didn’t disappoint by going with edgy black patent leather combat boot heels that went over-the-top with chunky white laces.
Although some Jelena fans might have hoped that Gomez and Justin Bieber would delight them by going together to the fashion event, Taylor Swift has been Gomez’s go-to girl for award shows in the past. The two teamed up again for the Met Gala 2016, reported People.

Fans had speculated that the Met Gala would become the scene for a Close Encounter Of the Awkward Kind, with the possibility that both Gomez and Justin’s other ex Hailey Baldwin would encounter each other and the “Sorry” singer, pointed out Bustle.
Although Bieber surprised those hoping to see him at the Met Gala, he showed up at an after party ready to have some fun, according to the Daily Mail.
Avoiding the red carpet and paparazzi at the fashion gala, the 22-year-old singer headed straight to a New York hot spot, the Up & Down Nightclub. And since, unlike those who had to seek a way to stay true to the Met Gala theme, Justin could wear whatever he wanted, he opted for an unbuttoned shirt that showed off his white gold, onyx, diamond, and emerald panther pendant.
Worth more than $106,000, the necklace is reportedly a gift from Bieber to himself.

Despite the disappointment among those who wanted to see what he chose for the Met Gala, his decision to avoid the event may have been fortunate when it comes to keeping Selena’s friendship with Taylor unbroken.
Swift has previously made it clear that she does not like Bieber, and she’s taking it one step further by attempting to persuade Gomez to put her on-and-off relationship with Justin in the permanent “off” category, according to Hollywood Life‘s insider.
When Taylor learned that Justin had ignored Selena in their backstage encounter at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, she felt that was the final sign that it was time for her to advise Gomez to end it and ban him from her life.
“After what he pulled at the iHeartRadio Awards, Taylor really wants her to cut ties with Justin once and for all. None of this back and forth stuff,” revealed the insider.
In addition, Swift reportedly predicted that if Selena succeeds in ending her relationship with him permanently, she will finally meet the right guy.
“Taylor has been telling Selena that once she makes a commitment to shut the door on him completely, she will meet the true man of her dreams,” added the source.
As to precisely what happened at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, an eyewitness told ET that when Selena was heading off to take pictures, Bieber walked directly past her and completely ignored her.
That shocker occurred only two weeks after Gomez had shown up at her ex’s Purpose show in Los Angeles and less than a month after Justin thrilled Jelena fans by sharing a throwback picture showing him kissing Selena.
