Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan Win An Emmy For ‘Live!’ But Don’t Show Up To Accept Award

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan won an Emmy for their work on Live! but neither of them showed up to accept the award. According to Deadline, the daytime duo were no-shows at the non-televised event in Los Angeles on May 1.

“I don’t think they’re here … Will accept on their behalf – and Kelly and Michael will share it,” said presenter Dr. Oz.

According to Gossip Cop, Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan were all smiles on this morning’s episode of Live! when they formally accepted their Emmy win.

“‘So, what’d y’all do yesterday?’ Ripa deadpanned. ‘We won an Emmy!’ The two then thanked each other and the audience, before Ripa revealed she didn’t know they had won until people texted congratulations.”

It’s really no surprise that Kelly and Michael didn’t show up to the ceremony. Things have been tense between the two since Strahan announced his plans to leave Live! for Good Morning America without giving Ripa any advanced warning. The former soap opera star was completely blindsided by the move and took a couple of days off of work while she processed the news.

Kelly Ripa has spoken out about the drama surround Live! and has publicly wished Michael Strahan the best. However, sources have said that there is a lot of tension between the two. And although Strahan wasn’t scheduled to make his move to GMA full-time until September, he dropped another bombshell shortly after Ripa’s return.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Strahan is leaving Live! in just a couple of weeks.

“After meeting with the producers of both Live and Good Morning America, and after speaking with Kelly and Michael, we have decided on a plan that best advantages both shows for the future. To that end, Michael’s last day on Live will be on Friday, May 13, which not only gives the show the chance to have a nice send-off for him during the May book, but to also immediately begin the on-air search for a new co-host. This plan also allows GMA to start integrating Michael into the show more often this summer before his full-time start in September,” a show spokesperson tells E! News.

Kelly Ripa still doesn’t know who her new co-host will be as the producers haven’t actually offered anyone a deal yet. According to Us Weekly, frontrunners for the job currently include Mario Lopez and Anderson Cooper. Other names being tossed around include Andy Cohen and Jerry O’Connell.

Regardless of what you might read online, Kelly Ripa will most likely be staying on Live! regardless who is chosen as her co-host. She makes quite a lot of money for the gig, which she seems to really enjoy when there’s no drama to be had. Although the shake-up on the set is going to take some getting used to, Kelly will likely continue to do well on the show. In a year’s time, all of this will be water under the bridge.

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan may or may not remain friends following this ordeal. The two are putting on their happy faces for the camera, but there’s a lot of animosity there, according to various sources.
