‘Fear The Walking Dead’: How Alicia’s Bad Choice In Men Could Be The Best Thing To Happen In Season 2

Remember when Alicia tried to pick up Jack via the Abigail’s radio? Well, that conversation will come back to bite the entire crew in Episode 4 of Fear The Walking Dead. But it could actually be the best thing to happen in the show so far.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information on Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid potential spoilers.

Someone needs to tell Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) that she has the worst taste in men. Okay, so Matt (Maestro Harrell), her boyfriend in Season 1 of Fear The Walking Dead was nice enough until he got infected. But has anyone told her that meeting men via the internet (or, in the case of the zombie apocalypse, CB radio) is not the best way to pick up? Especially not when the man in question fishes for way more information than he gives out about himself. Perhaps she should have paid attention in school when they were explaining the history behind the phrase “loose lips sink ships.”

In the Season 2 premiere, Alicia was put in charge of the radio on board the Abigail. This is probably the worst decision made so far in Fear The Walking Dead. Because of course Alicia met up with some cute boy (or so she thinks) and strikes up a long-distance relationship. In the process, she manages to give up all sorts of valuable information, like who is on board her ship, what sort of ship it is, how many are on board with her and enough general scenic points for Jack’s crew to pinpoint the exact location of the Abigail.

Now, when Alicia realizes there are strange people on board the Abigail, she recognizes a familiar voice and without even thinking, calls out to Jack (played by Daniel Zovatto). Not once does she wonder if perhaps these people might be a danger to them. Not once does she stand back and just take in what is going on before she bounds ahead to find out whether Jack is as nice in person as he appeared on the radio. Of course she doesn’t because she is too suped up on teenage hormones and just wants to meet up with her radio crush. At one point she even thinks her and Jack were destined to meet.

So now the crew of Fear The Walking Dead are in danger, taken over by zombie apocalypse pirates thanks to Alicia’s loose lips. In Episode 4, entitled “Blood In The Streets,” we saw the group manage to finally pull themselves together and behave like the combined family unit that Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) was so fearful of. Perhaps this is the mistake Alicia needed to make in order for the group to band together. After all, it is very hard to survive the apocalypse alone. Not even Morgan (Lennie James) could manage that feat for long in Fear’s companion program, The Walking Dead. And it is something the group has been grappling with since boarding the Abigail.

While Nick (Frank Dillane) and Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) were not on board when the Abigail was taken over, by the end of the episode, the pair had been located and brought back into the fold. Alicia and her stepfather, Travis (Cliff Curtis), however, had been taken hostage by Jack’s group. So it seems Episode 5 of Fear, it seems, will deal with the rescue of Alicia and Travis and of, finally, bringing Strand to a point where he admits he can’t do this alone. Hopefully, it will also bring the group up to speed on the zombie apocalypse far more quickly than the original group in The Walking Dead did.
