Prince’s Family Receives A Big Cash Donation From George Lopez

Anyone who thinks that all showbiz types are stuffy and stuck up has probably never met George Lopez. The comedian reached out to the family of the late rock star Prince this weekend, making a gesture of extraordinary kindness during their time of need. According to celebrity news and gossip outlet TMZ, Lopez opened his heart and his wallet to some of Prince’s siblings after news broke that a court had frozen Prince’s assets until disputes regarding his estate are settled.

TMZ’s report indicates George Lopez has given Prince’s family $20,000 to cover some of their expenses as things get sorted out in the court system. Moreover, it was speculated that he could provide more relief if necessary. Lopez apparently gave them the money on the down-low and was not looking for any publicity with regard to the gesture.

Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park estate on April 21. Although many reports have included speculation that the 57-year-old rock icon’s death was caused by an opioid addiction, toxicology results are still pending. It is not known if Prince had any formal last will and testament at the time of his passing. His estate is valued at an estimated $300 million. According to The Mirror, Prince was generous to his siblings, even purchasing houses for them in some instances.

Despite Prince’s reputation as a somewhat reclusive individual, he had a number of close friends, including George Lopez. As noted by the Daily Mail, Prince appeared on the comedian’s show Lopez Tonight in 2011 for a rare television interview. He spoke candidly about his vegetarian diet and desire for a healthy lifestyle during the chat with Lopez.

George Lopez was also spotted backstage at a Prince concert the same year.

On his official Twitter page, George Lopez has posted a banner image showing himself with Prince. He also has posted the words “Life is just a party and parties weren’t meant to last,” a quote from Prince’s chart-topping song, “1999.”

Prince’s family could well be in for a bit of a wait when it comes to the distribution of his assets. As noted by Daily Mail, a judge appointed a company named Bremer Trust to manage the late celebrity’s finances “for six months or until a personal representative is appointed.” Among other things, Bremer Trust is tasked with determining who are the rightful heirs to Prince’s earnings, both past and present.

Bremer Trust recently opened a vault at Prince’s Paisley Park estate that is reportedly filled with unreleased tracks and master recordings from the fallen artist. But it’s not just Bremer Trust officials who are sorting through Paisley Park in earnest. Last week, local police served a search warrant on the estate, ostensibly looking for substances that might have contributed to the Purple Rain architect’s demise. Specific information regarding the search and anything it might have yielded are sealed via court order for the foreseeable future.

Prince had a sister, Tyka Nelson, and six half-siblings. He was also married twice, with both unions ending in divorce. An individual has also come forward claiming to be Prince’s “love child,” asserting that he has a valid claim to the singer’s estate, but any relationship with Prince has not been substantiated to date.
