WWE News: Enzo Amore May Have Been Seriously Injured In Opening Match At ‘Payback’ Tonight [Breaking]

WWE is holding their annual Pay-Per-View known as Payback tonight, and the first match of the evening just had to end very suddenly. The opener was the final match in the tag team tournament to determine the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Titles, and it was between The Vaudevillains and the team of Enzo Amore and Big Cass. After just a couple of minutes, the match was called off as Amore appeared to have suffered a serious injury.

UPDATE as of 10:25 p.m. Eastern

The match started and there was some back-and-forth throughout, but after a couple of minutes, Amore was whipped into the ropes by Simon Gotch, and that was when it happened. Amore appeared to be thrown to the outside, but it was much worse than that.

It looked bad at regular speed, and Amore appeared to be knocked out cold. It resulted in the referee jumping out of the ring, checking on him, throwing up the “X” hand signal to signify a legitimate injury, and the match being called off.

Trainers came out to the ring, put a neck brace on Amore, and put him on a stretcher to take him to the back.

Right after Amore was whipped into the ropes, his head snapped back and hit the mat before he fell to the ground outside. Big Cass came over to check on him, and Amore’s eyes were wide open as he just laid there.

Cass looked instantly worried and The New Day, who were sitting at ringside, were just staring in disbelief at what had just happened.

That was when the referee jumped out of the ring and got down on the ground to check out how Amore was doing. There was no response from him at all, and the ref jumped to his feet after a minute and threw the “X” signal into the air.

Trainers started coming down, and the referee called for the bell to officially end the match. It really did not seem as if this was a work or part of the storyline at all as everyone at ringside appeared truly concerned, and the announcers were trying to figure out how to approach the situation.

WrestleZone did report that the incident was serious and that Enzo Amore was being treated by medical personnel backstage.

Reports on Twitter have been coming through that Enzo Amore was moving all of his extremities, and he was indeed talking to those around him. That is extremely good news as many have been concerned that he may have suffered severe damage to his neck or spine.

WWE did let it be known that Amore was taken straight to a medical facility nearby after being brought out of the main arena on a stretcher.

As of this writing, there still is not a lot known about the full status of Enzo Amore, but it really didn’t look good when it happened. Hopefully, the training staff and doctors were able to work quickly to prevent further injury and did what needed to be done to help him. WWE did give a small update, and it was good news, but more should be known soon. After he was taken to the back, the next match started on Payback as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens came out to the ring.
