Dakota Johnson Gets Mom Melanie Griffith’s Approval For ‘Fifty Shades Darker,’ ‘FSOG’ Sequel Gets NC-17 Rating?

Dakota Johnson’s mom Melanie Griffith was recently spotted on the set of Fifty Shades Darker. It seems like the veteran movie actress has finally given her blessing to her daughter’s raunchy new movie.

According to Van City Buzz, Griffith was seen in Vancouver early this week, visiting the set of Johnson’s new film, Fifty Shades Darker, the highly-anticipated sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson were reportedly filming a scene in North Vancouver cemetery, as they were seen visiting the grave of Grey’s birth mother. During breaks from filming, Johnson and Griffith were spotted holding hands walking around the set.

While Griffith has always been wary about Johnson doing the adaptation of EL James’ erotic novel, it seems like she has finally come around. In fact, in an interview with E! News, she revealed that she actually saw “a little bit” of FSOG. She, however, admitted that she has not seen the entire movie just yet.

“I just can’t quite bring myself to watch the love scenes.”

In the past, Melanie Griffith has been quite vocal about not wanting to see Dakota Johnson in Fifty Shades of Grey. She explained that, as a mother, it was just difficult to see her child in such a raunchy film.

“Would you want to see your child having sex like that? Just regular sex, I couldn’t do that. But the ‘room of pain’ sex? I definitely couldn’t do that!”

In an interview on the Oscars red carpet back in 2015, Dakota and Melanie shared quite a tense moment when the subject of Fifty Shades of Grey came up. The 58-year-old actress argued that she did not need to see the film to see how good of an actress her daughter is. Clearly upset with her mother’s reaction, Johnson snapped and told her that she did not have to see it before turning away from the camera and adding, “Jesus Christ.”

Now that she has seen parts of FSOG and has even visited the set of Fifty Shades Darker, it is safe to assume that Griffith has actually reconsidered her take on the franchise.

Her dad, Don Johnson, however, stood firm against watching any of the Fifty Shades films. Speaking to Interview magazine, Dakota revealed that she was actually grateful that her dad has no interest in seeing the Fifty Shades Darker. While she and Dornan were not actually having sex, it was just not a project she wanted her dad to see.

With rumors circulating online that the sequel is going to be raunchier compared to its predecessor, it must be a nice feeling for Dakota Johnson to have her mother’s support this time around.

Speaking to E! News, Dakota jokingly said that onscreen partner Jamie Dornan should definitely show more skin on Fifty Shades Darker. Given the countless reports online claiming that The Fall actor was offered millions of dollars to do a full frontal, Dakota said that she will take it upon herself to make sure that the fans get what they want.

“I’m going to make him get fully naked in the next one,” she said.

According to Movie Pilot, one of the most common comments from critics was that there were just not enough sex scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey. Film editor Anne V. Coates agreed that they could have pushed the envelope further. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Coates explained that they while it could have been raunchier, they were aiming to get an R rating, which would explain their reservations in some of the scenes.

“Unless they go for an NC-17 rating, there’s not much the movie makers can do to increase the amount of sex in Fifty Shades Darker,” Movie Pilot’s Eleanor Treemer pointed out.
