Two toddlers were reportedly found chained up in a San Antonio yard this week, and authorities are calling it a “horrific” case of child abuse. San Antonio Express News reports that authorities with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office made the discovery on Thursday night.
The police were working on a tip that there may be a case of child abuse in the home in question. The caller who notified authorities said that they could hear a child crying somewhere on the property, which concerned them. Fortunately authorities were able to respond quickly to the concerning calls, because they discovered two toddlers tied up like animals in the backyard of the property. They made this shocking discovery by grabbing a ladder and using it to peep into the backyard where the concerned caller had reportedly heard crying.

Chained to the ground in the backyard of the San Antonio property was a 2-year-old boy. A 3-year-old girl was tied to a door in the backyard with a dog’s leash. That wasn’t all they found at the property. Inside the house, there were six more children — all under the age of 13-years-old. When they rescued the two toddlers from the backyard, they also discovered that one of them had a broken arm. They were outside, chained like dogs, for an unknown amount of time.
While authorities were rescuing the children from the home, the parents arrived at the scene. They were arrested. However, some reports are indicating that only the mother of the neglected children was arrested. Names and mugshots have not yet been released in this developing case of alleged child abuse.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time news of children being chained or tied up has gone viral. New York Daily News reported last year that an 11-year-old North Carolina boy was found handcuffed to the porch of his residence. That wasn’t the most shocking detail in this incident, however. The child had a dead chicken draped around his neck.
The child bravely spoke out about what had allegedly been done to him a couple years after the harrowing rescue. Not only was he chained up outside as a form of abuse, the 11-year-old was also reportedly burned, cut, starved, and whipped by his foster parents. The couple responsible for this horrifying case of abuse eventually pleaded guilty, admitting to the crimes. They both face up to a decade of imprisonment, but is that really enough?
In the latest case out of San Antonio, it’s fortunate that the little ones were rescued by authorities before things could have gotten worse for them. Authorities are calling this one of the sickest cases of child abuse they’ve seen in the area. Meanwhile, folks on social media (along with news reporters) are waiting for information about the arrests that were made in association with the discovery of the chained up toddlers.
