Everyone was shocked when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced that they were deciding to “consciously uncouple” back in 2014. Now, Paltrow has revealed that she and the Coldplay frontman split up way before they decided to announce to the world that they had decided to split.
Now, Paltrow revealed in an interview with Red Magazine, that the couple split a year before they decided to announce their impending divorce. The pair waited a year to announce so they could get their affairs in order before they publicly let the cat out of the bag.

Paltrow explained the initial plan.
“We had broken up a year before we announced it, so we would have this time to work through everything. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us…”
Paltrow continued to explain their decision to wait to see what happened between the two of them, and went on to discuss how difficult the split was for the both of them.
“It’s also almost about having to press the ‘override’ button whenever you feel angry or jealous or whatever, broken-hearted. You have to press the button — I’m going back to the baseline of I love this person, he’s the father of my children, he’s a wonderful man. I’m just going to put my s–t aside for right now.”

Paltrow explained that while things haven’t been easy, they have both put the children first, even though they have their own hang ups with each other. Instead of complaining about Martin to the press and vice versa, Gwyneth decided she was going to focus on the positive things that she loves about the Coldplay musician, so things were amiable at home between the two.
“I’m going to focus on all the reasons that I love you, that you’re like my brother and my family forever and we’ll deal with that stuff another time. It’s not always easy, but it’s just the way we wanted to try to do it. I have to say it wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for, but it was our outcome and we’ve really done the best that we can.”
Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow successfully co-parent their children Apple and Moses Martin. In fact, this couple is the pair that most Hollywood parents look toward to set an example on how to co-parent.
As far as what she’s learned from her ex-partner, Chris Martin, Paltrow said that she considers herself very lucky to have a partner that she gets along with, in terms of parenting. According to the star, Martin is “teaching me, as much as I taught him. And bringing to me, as much as I brought to him, ideas about how to do it in a really gentle way, so it would be really gentle for Chris and myself because we loved each other very much and we still do love each other and we have these two beautiful children together.”
Both have moved on since announcing their plans to split. Chris Martin dated Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence for a year before they split. Paltrow moved on to Glee and American Horror Story co-producer Brad Falchuk. Most recently, Martin has sparked dating rumors with actress Heather Graham, as they were spotted together taking a walk. Looks like his “year of depression” is over with.
