Chris Hemsworth ‘Ghostbusters’ Featurette Shows Kevin As ‘Lovable Himbo’ [Video]

The newly released Ghostbusters featurette of Chris Hemsworth playing ditzy assistant Kevin proves that he is more than just a pretty face. We have already seen that the sexy Australian is funny in the most recent installment of National Lampoon, but his role in the Ghostbusters remake as the ridiculously handsome, but simple-minded, assistant is going to be a scene stealer.

When Columbia decided to flip the switch and reimagine the classic 1984 Ghostbusters movie with a female cast, they couldn’t have picked a better choice than Chris Hemsworth to replace Annie Potts. In the original that originally starred Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis, their assistant Janine Melnitz was smart and sassy. Kevin doesn’t even have a last name, most likely because he forgot it.

The vignette shows that Hemsworth is more than just what is seen on the exterior, although that is exactly why Kevin was hired. The girls clearly wanted a break from the monotony and wanted some eye candy. Who can blame them? Hemsworth is obviously well liked and admired as a true comedic talent by his female co-stars, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate Mckinnon. They appear to be madly in lust with him, especially Jones who gushes over the Thor star constantly throughout the video. Mckinnon had the best description of Kevin.

“He’s a Ken doll with the insides scooped out.”

After the director Paul Feig met with Chris Hemsworth, the role was rewritten so that instead of Kevin being a snide slacker, he was turned into a lovable imbecile who is way over his head. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth was worried about rising to the challenge of being funny with women who are certifiably funny. He was provided with a list of jokes so that he wouldn’t have to improvise. It turns out he didn’t need any help. He came up with jokes on his own that Feig assures us will wind up in the movie.

There is no doubt that Chris Hemsworth is seen as a major sex symbol — his looks are probably part of what got him where he is today, and honestly, who doesn’t love a Hemsworth? His role as Kevin sets him apart from his previous roles as Thor and The Huntsman, who are both dangerously attractive and fully capable. Kevin is a very attractive mannequin and essentially just as useless — he took the lenses out of his glasses because they kept getting dirty. There is no way one could ever confuse the two characters or typecast him after this movie is released.

It’s not that hard to see Chris Hemsworth as funny and talented in addition to being gorgeous. He definitely presents himself as an intelligent person with a sense of humor, and he is a decent actor. Still it is difficult to see past those good looks and bulging body. He is so hilarious playing an imbecile and looks so good doing it that you are completely capable of separating Kevin from any of his other characters.

Look for Chris Hemsworth and the ladies, in addition to Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver, in the reboot of Ghostbusters on July 15.
