Miami Dolphins Trade Rumors: Will San Diego Chargers Trade First-Round Pick?
Miami Dolphins trade rumors reveal an effort to get a first-round pick from the San Diego Chargers. These Dolphins rumors link the team to Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, who could get selected at No. 4 by the Dallas Cowboys. A report from ESPN confirms that the Dolphins are in the market for a running back, which could serve as confirmation that the team has contacted the Chargers about making a trade for the No. 3 overall selection. If the Cowboys do want to select Elliott at No. 4, this would be a way for the Dolphins to scoop them on draft day.
A report from CBS Sports also states that there are Miami Dolphins trade rumors in regard to the upcoming NFL Draft. While previous Dolphins rumors had suggested that the team might want to trade down in the first round, the prospect of acquiring a running back like Ezekiel Elliott might be very enticing. The biggest question in the situation would be whether the San Diego Chargers are even willing to part with that selection, or if the front office wants to select an elite player early on.
There are many NFL rumors that seem to confirm that the first two selections of the 2016 NFL Draft will be quarterbacks. A new NFL mock draft from CBS Sports has the Los Angeles Rams drafting California quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 selection and then the Philadelphia Eagles selecting North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz with the No. 2 selection. This gives the San Diego Chargers a lot of options with that third pick, and CBS Sports predicts that they will go with Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.
A big component of these Miami Dolphins trade rumors is whether the team has enough assets to intrigue the front office of the San Diego Chargers. A report from the NFL website states that the Dolphins have eight selections in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Dolphins have the 13th pick (first round), the 42nd pick (second round), and the 73rd pick (third round) as primary assets. It might become necessary to offer those three selections to move up to the No. 3 slot currently occupied by the Chargers.
As with any NFL Draft, there are a lot of games that get played by teams leading up to the first-round selections. Included in that are smoke screens where teams act interested in particular players or put out information in the media which makes it appear that the team is interested. It’s possible that teams are doing that with running back Ezekiel Elliott in order to improve the value of a higher pick and then trade out of that slot. Could that be happening again this year?
Many Miami Dolphins draft rumors have linked the team to Elliott, showing that the front office may have a lot of interest in selecting the Ohio State product. Even the most recent seven-round mock draft from the NFL website indicates that Elliott is the primary target of the Dolphins in the first round. That mock draft has Elliott falling all the way to the No. 13 pick, so if the NFL website is predicting the draft results correctly, the Dolphins may not want to trade up in the first round after all.
The Tennessee Titans already traded the first pick and the Cleveland Browns already traded the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. It wouldn’t surprise any NFL fans if the San Diego Chargers followed that up by trading the third overall selection. There are a number of teams that might also want that pick, though, so in addition to the Miami Dolphins trade rumors, more teams could get mentioned if the Chargers officially put it on the market. So should the Dolphins make that trade or wait to see if the Dallas Cowboys really want Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4?
