There are a ton of rumors surrounding now-former NXT Champion Finn Balor. Is he going to the main roster? Will he show up on tonight’s Raw? Like with any other rumor, we’ll just have to wait to see if it’s true. However, whether he goes to the main roster or now, Balor will still be in the NXT Title picture at least until this coming June.
According to Cageside Seats, the plan may be for new NXT Champion Samoa Joe to defend his title against Finn Balor inside of a steel cage at NXT Takeover in June.
“While there are still rumors of Finn Balor getting called up to the main roster ASAP, there are some other rumors going around that they could be building to a cage match at the next NXT Takeover event between Balor and Samoa Joe.”
Over the weekend, Finn Balor commented on the main roster rumor, and he said that he’s staying in NXT. His “I’m staying in NXT!” speech was met with a few boos, probably because he’s done everything he can in NXT. WWE fans are ready to see him move onto the main roster and form the Balor Club with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.
Most fans are thinking that Balor was trying to swerve everyone by saying that he’s staying in NXT. Whether that’s the case or not remains to be seen.
There’s a rumor going around that instead of debuting on tonight’s Raw, Balor will debut during Sunday’s WWE Payback main event between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles. The idea is that the Balor Club will lay out both Styles and Reigns, which would lead to a feud between the newly formed Balor Club and the two participants in Sunday’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship match.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer has suggested that Balor will continue working the NXT live events and television tapings while he’s on the main roster, and Gallows and Anderson will wrestle on all of the WWE live events as the Balor Club. That would allow Balor to finish up in NXT and build towards the rumored cage match with Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover.
If Joe and Balor end up being the main event of NXT Takeover this summer, then that would be the third time in a row the two men have headlined a NXT special. There’s a chance that WWE could change things up and make it a triple-threat match by throwing Austin Aries into the mix. Why Austin Aries? Since Joe won the NXT Championship, NXT has been booking Joe vs. Balor vs. Aries on all of the live events.
It’s also worth noting that Joe winning the NXT Championship at a house show was planned several months ago, according to the Wrestling Observer. Don’t be surprised if Finn Balor ends up staying in NXT for a little while even if he debuts on the main roster in the next week or two.
Prior to NXT Takeover: Dallas, it was rumored that the loser of the Balor vs. Joe match would end up going to the main roster after WrestleMania 32. When neither man ended up on the main roster, the rumored main roster starting date for both Joe and Balor was moved to after SummerSlam in August. We may have to wait until the summertime to see one or both men on the main roster.
In the meantime, Gallows and Anderson could form an alliance with AJ Styles and then turn on him when Balor gets called up in August.
