Banned Azealia Banks Magazine Cover Released Online

Rapper Azealia Banks poses on the cover of this month’s Dazed & Confused but only a few lucky countries will be able to see it. According to the British fashion magazine’s Twitter feed, the cover photo has been banned by at least 7 countries.

Dazed & Confused wrote on Twitter:

“Just been told our upcoming Azealia Banks cover has been banned from 7 countries so far. Thank God for the Internet, huh?”

According to The Standard, the photo has been banned in Singapore, Dubai, Malta, Switzerland, India and Thailand. And it’s pretty easy to see why. The banned photo shows Banks smoking a pink condom like a cigar above the tagline, “Azealia Banks blows up.”

Dazed’s editor, Rod Stanley, said that he knew that the cover would stir up some conversation but didn’t think that the magazine would get banned.

Stanley said:

“Azealia liked it, and we thought it would be fun and suited her because she’s a strong, provocative character… I knew this cover would be talked about, but didn’t expect a confident, young woman posing with an inflated condom to cause this much fuss. It’s funny that in a world where extreme images are so accessible, someone posing with something that is used for safe sex is what we get worked up about.”

Here’s Azealia Banks’ banned photo. (Obviously NSFW. And in some cases, Not Safe For Country.)
