Since leaving The Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev has been very selective in the projects she chooses to take on, suggesting in interviews that she has been holding out for a superhero franchise or something akin to Jennifer Lawrence’s role in The Hunger Games. After more than a year with no results in that department, it seems Dobrev is turning her attention back to her horror roots with a Flatliners remake. News that Nina Dobrev will be joining Ellen Page on the Flatliners reboot is still early, and Nina will be shooting xXx: The Return of Xander Cage first.

Nina Dobrev has been tapped to star alongside Ellen Page and Diego Luna in the Flatliners reboot, which tells the story of a group of young and promising medical students who risk their lives in experiments that cross the lines of life and death. The original film starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, and Julia Roberts, launching each of them on successful film careers that continue to flourish to this day. Dobrev may recognize this vast potential in taking on the Flatliners reboot. If the film is a box office and critical hit, Dobrev may find herself launched on a new trajectory in her career, courtesy of the horror genre.
Becoming a scream queen may not be what Nina has in mind for her career, but her roots in horror from The Vampire Diaries role to The Final Girls may have already been enough to typecast Dobrev as a horror scream queen. Nina may be smart to accept such typecasting. Horror scream queens sometimes soar to stardom faster with cult film favorites than actresses in many other genres.
The Flatliners reboot, written by Ben Ripley, will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev. Producing Flatliners is Michael Douglas and Laurence Mark. Filming is scheduled to begin in July. Little else is known about the Flatliners reboot at this early stage.
xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage Stars Nina Dobrev And Ruby Rose Go Wild Pranking Each Other
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has given Nina a chance to bond with co-star Ruby Rose over some wild practical jokes. There’s no word on who started the humorous rivalry, but Ruby has definitely startled Dobrev more than a few times. In one instance, Rose was spotted tossing fart bombs into Dobrev’s trailer, and moments later, sources reported hearing startled screams from Ms. Dobrev.
“Sometime you have to go old school on ’em sorry @ninadobrev you made there be sides!!” Ruby Rose captioned a video of the incident when she shared it with her Instagram followers.
Ms. Rose was only getting started with her practical jokes, it seems. She also shared videos of herself replacing Nina’s dress for her press tour with a skimpy one-piece outfit, which was much more revealing than the intended outfit. Also, while Dobrev was filming, Ruby plastered the inside of Nina’s trailer with photos from Ruby’s Orange is the New Black scenes.
It didn’t take Nina long to devise a plan for revenge. Sticking to the old adage that “revenge is a dish best served cold,” Dobrev had a tub of live crabs delivered to Ruby Rose’s trailer, where they awaited the actress. Like Rose, Ms. Dobrev also recorded a video of the practical joke.
“Don’t be so crabby, Ruby,” she captioned the video, which she also shared with her Instagram followers.
Practical jokes notwithstanding, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will see a January 20, 2017 theatrical premiere. The film, which also stars Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson, sees Diesel reprising his role as the title character, who returns to action after he had been left for dead.
