Prince: 10 Things You May Not Know About The Purple One, Including His Love Of Zooey Deschanel

Prince was known to be a private person. However, in the few days since his death, many things have been uncovered about the Purple One. Here are 10 things you may not know about Prince Rogers Nelson. If you’re a die-hard fan, you may be aware of all of them. If not, you’ll learn something new.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Prince recently purchased a custom-made Yamaha piano. The one thing that makes this piano so special is the fact that it’s the same color as the purple couch Prince was so fond of.

The piano was delivered to his Paisley Park home a few weeks ago. Word has it that the same piano was slated to be part of his Piano and a Microphone Tour. The vice president of Yamaha Entertainment Group indicates it took approximately three months for the instrument to be customized to Prince’s specifications.

CNN tells readers Prince loved The New Girl and Zooey Deschanel. So much so, in fact, he even starred in an episode and recorded a single with Deschanel for iTunes. In case you’re wondering how this came about, Prince emailed Zooey admitting he only watched two things — the news and her show. The rest, as they say, is history.

As hard as it may be to believe, Prince didn’t have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Shortly after his death, a fan took it upon himself to scribble the Purple One’s name on an unoccupied star.

Not only was Prince a musical superhero, but he was a comic book superhero too — at least for one issue. A cross between The Dark Knight Returns and Purple Rain and published in 1991, the comic book is currently selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay.

Buzzfeed compiled a rather extensive list of little-known facts relating to Prince. For example, have you ever wondered why his music was suddenly less sexually explicit in the late 1990s? The answer is simple. It was during that period the singer opted to become a Jehovah’s Witness.

Prince made his Purple Rain co-star, Apollonia, keep her marriage a secret. He wanted the public to think the two of them were romantically involved.

As a teenager, Prince was a die-hard Joni Mitchell fan. Joni had this to say about the experience.

“Prince used to write me fan mail with all of the U’s and hearts that way that he writes. And the office took it as mail from the lunatic fringe and just tossed it!”

There was a time in the life of the Purple One when he was so poor that he used to stand outside McDonald’s and smell food. His favorite meal on the set of Purple Rain was orange juice and spaghetti.

Lorna Nelson, Prince’s half-sister, sued him in 1989. Why? She insisted she wrote the lyrics for “U Got the Look.” She ultimately lost, the judge siding with Prince.

Prince was very taken with Kim Basinger. After meeting her, he canceled an upcoming Japanese tour and wrote an entire album’s worth of music, just to impress her. Whether or not it worked is still a mystery.
