Donald Trump Criticized For Mocking Accent Of Indian Call Center Employees [Video]

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has come under fire from the liberal media for attempting to criticize the business trend of outsourcing to foreign countries, such as India and China, by faking an Indian accent to impersonate an Indian call center employee.

Trump was speaking to supporters at a campaign rally in Delaware on Friday, April 22, when he made comments in which he faked the accent of an imaginary Indian call center representative. But apparently aware of the backlash he had suffered in the past after mocking foreign accents and foreign businessmen speaking broken English, Trump immediately went on to describe India as a “great place,” saying that contrary to what his detractors say, he was not angry with foreign countries such as India, China, Japan, and Mexico, but against America’s “stupid” leaders.

While addressing supporters at a campaign rally in Delaware, the billionaire estate mogul made comments criticizing “crooked banking” in the financial services industry. He paused to give an anecdotal illustration from his experience, saying that he once called up his credit card company to find out whether their customer support department was based in the U.S., but he was disappointed when he discovered that it was based in India.

“So I called up, under the guise I’m checking on my card, I said, ‘Where are you from?'” Trump said.

Then imitating the call center employee using a fake Indian accent, he said the response he got was, “We are from India.”

“Guess what, you’re talking to a person from India. How the hell does that work?”

He said he then hung up the phone, saying, “Oh great, that’s wonderful.”

Realizing that he could be criticized for mocking Indians, he said, “India is great place. I am not upset with other leaders. I am upset with our leaders for being so stupid.”

“I am not angry with China. I am not angry at Japan. I am not angry with Vietnam, India… all these countries,” he added.

The focus of his comments and the use of examples taken from the banking and credit card industry was informed by the fact that Delaware is a major center of the banking and credit card industry in the country.

According to Trump, financial services institutions were taking advantage of Delaware’s statute as a tax shelter to “make a lot of money,” yet they were outsourcing labor overseas and refusing to employ Americans.

“You can’t allow policies that allow business to be ripped out of the United States like candy from a baby,” he continued.

“The manufacturing jobs are being stolen. Our jobs are being taken. We are losing at every front. There is nothing good. Our country does not win anymore. The jobs are being stripped. Factories are closing. We are not going to let this happen anymore,” he added.

But while Trump’s critics have often attacked him for mocking foreign accents and foreign businessmen speaking broken English, his supporters have defended him, saying that his critics are basing their comments on misguided notions of “political correctness.”

“I want to run against crooked Hillary. We will stomp on Hillary Clinton no one’s ever done.”

And while critics have attacked him for what they consider racially-charged comments against foreigners, such as Muslims and Mexicans, he has also often used charged language against his political opponents. For instance at the rally, he attacked the South Carolina Governor, the Indian-American Nikki Halley, who has spoken against him and refused to endorse him. He hit out aggressively at his Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton, saying, “I want to run against crooked Hillary. We will stomp on Hillary Clinton no one’s ever done.”

He also criticized President Barack Obama for refusing to call terrorists “radical Islamists.”
