President Obama Calls Prince George ‘Adorable’ As Young Royal Thanks Him For Rocking Horse Gift

President Barack Obama has called Prince George “adorable” at a question-and-answer session held at London’s Lindley Hall. The talk marks the second day of his U.K. visit. Several celebrities attended the session, including Annie Lennox, Holly Valance, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The attendees listened as the POTUS answered questions pertaining to the Brits.

At the beginning of the session, President Obama talked about his visit to the Kensington Palace, where he met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s firstborn. The 2-year-old was allowed to stay up 15 minutes past his bedtime to meet President Obama and his wife, Michelle.

“I guess you all know why I came this week, it’s no secret. Nothing was going to stop be wishing happy birthday to her majesty and meeting George — who was adorable. Michelle and I had the privilege to have visit with her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh yesterday. I can’t tell you what we talked about. I can tell you that I hope that I’m such an engaging lunch partner when I am 90.”

Prince George, who was clad in blue gingham pyjamas and a white dressing gown, thanked the couple for the rocking horse they gifted him when he was born. He enthusiastically demonstrated his “riding skills.” He also thanked the Obamas for the stuffed toy he was sent when his sister, Princess Charlotte, was born.

Prince William, Duchess Catherine, and Prince Harry welcomed the Obamas in the courtyard shortly after 7 p.m. Prince William apologized to the couple for the downpour. The group posed for photos in front of the waiting press people before continuing their conversation in the palace’s drawing room.

Kensington Palace shared a series of photographs documenting Prince George and President Obama’s meeting. The hashtag #PrinceGeorge immediately trended as fans gushed over the young royal’s charm.

Prince George also took the spotlight when he posed for a royal stamp commemorating his great grandmother’s 90th birthday. He was standing on a set of blocks as he held onto Prince William’s hand. The cheeky toddler delighted supporters in his first ever royal stamp appearance.

The portrait was taken in the Buckingham Palace’s White Drawing Room last year. Photographer Ranald Mackechnie talked to Mirror about the honor he felt after taking the rare portrait.

“It’s great just to be asked to photograph a stamp, never mind four generations of the royal family. When I was asked about it I was ecstatic but I had to keep schtum for 18 months. It was an amazingly relaxing and light-hearted sitting. They were comfortable with one another and behaved like any family with their conversation and jokes.”

The stamp is included in a 10-part set specifically made for Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. Other stamps portray the Queen posing with Prince Charles, and also with the late South African president Nelson Mandela. The stamp sheet comes with perforations, allowing owners to use the stamps individually. The exclusive stamps may now be purchased from the Royal Mail.

Earlier this year, Prince George’s first day at school photos also trended online. The photos were taken by the Duchess herself just outside the Westacre Montessori School in Norfolk, near the family’s Anmer Hall home. The school charges £33 ($68) a day, although 23 of the 27 students receive financial assistance.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are determined to keep their son’s affairs private, which prompted them to choose a school that’s on a private road. “The couple hopes [the location] will enable their son, who will be three in July, to enjoy his time there away from the spotlight,” according to the Daily Mail.
