‘Equals’ Kristen Stewart Sex Scene Was ‘Actually Very Weird,’ Says Co-Star Nicholas Hoult

Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult play two characters that find themselves at odds with society, as a rare virus allows them to feel love for each other in Equals. For a film that bases its entire premise on the exploration of human emotion, the actors’ abilities to express their feelings may be the most vital parts of playing their characters, but Nicholas Hoult now suggests that something was awry in that department. Does the Equals star blame his co-star for lacking the necessary passion, or was the problem of a technical nature?

Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult Share Some “Very Weird” Lovemaking In Equals

Kristen Stewart plays Nia to Hoult’s Silas in Equals, and together, the couple develop forbidden feelings in a dystopian society where emotions are genetically eliminated and can only be accessed or reignited through contracting a rare virus. When emotion and physical passion is so rare, one might expect the sudden explosion of love and lust to manifest itself in some powerful and intense sex scenes, but Equals star Nicholas Hoult says he felt the sex scenes he shared with Stewart were not even “enjoyable,” let alone passionate.

“In a way, it’s very weird to do that type of scene,” the Equals star said. “It was actually very weird the first time I watched the film. I was like, wow, that’s me, but I feel I shouldn’t be watching it.”

Hoult also answered some unvoiced questions, items that the public may often have wondered about, regarding just how sex scenes are generally filmed. Contrary to what many may believe, the Equals actor says that he was alone with Stewart in a sound proof room, accompanied only by the sound operator and the camera operator. Hoult adds that the session was unscripted, allowing he and Kristen to improvise much of what is seen in the filmed sex scenes.

In other words, the lackluster sex scenes can only be due to a lack of chemistry between Kristen Stewart and her Equals co-star.

Kristen Stewart May Love SoKo, But That’s Not The Case With Everyone

Stewart’s tame lovemaking in Equals may have had more to do with her partner, as it seems Kristen is far more happier with her female partners. Her latest girlfriend, SoKo, seems to be the apple of her eye, but Stewart’s long-time friends aren’t quite as blinded by love. It seems Kristen’s entourage are wary of SoKo’s intentions in regard to dating the Equals actress, especially in the way she keeps pushing Kristen to go public with their relationship.

“They don’t think it’s a coincidence that Soko is pushing their relationship out in the open,” a source reported. “It all seems very calculated, especially since Soko was the one who pursued Kristen so hard.”

Yet, SoKo, whose legal name is Stéphanie Sokolinski, seems to share many of the same views about sexuality and gender identity as Ms. Stewart, so they may not be as mismatched as Kristen’s friends would like to believe. In a recent interview, SoKo acknowledges that women can be as crude and forthright as men, when it comes to sex, but she says she prefers having such expressions of lust come from another female. Even so, she adds she would still be “up for it,” even coming from a male partner.

“Sex for so long was such a taboo thing. You couldn’t be free with your sexuality and say that you like it. But it’s one of the biggest joys of life. If you find one partner who you love having sex with, it’s the best! This new generation is a lot more liquid with sexuality and it’s really refreshing.”

Equals, starring Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, and Guy Pearce, is scheduled for a May 26 theatrical release.
