Prince Honored With ‘Purple Rain’ In Theaters: Final Days Detailed As L.A. Reid Reveals ‘Mysterious’ Death Clues

Prince made his film debut in Purple Rain, turning the movie into a memorial in the wake of his death at age 57 on April 21. And now, as the world mourns his loss, Purple Rain is returning to theaters to honor Prince, reported Us Weekly.

Purple Rain, which won an Oscar, will air in 87 AMC theaters, courtesy of AMC and Warner Bros., from Saturday, April 23, through Thursday, April 27. In addition, Carmike Theaters is screening the movie in 80 theaters as it merges with AMC.

Purple Rain showcases Prince the musical artist, as well as unveiling his acting skills. In the role of The Kid, Prince turned the rock musical drama into an unforgettable tale of a band’s frontman who struggles to survive a challenging home life by devoting himself to his talent.

Prince received an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score when Purple Rain was released in 1984, noted Variety, which listed the theaters in which the movie will air.

The album associated with the movie went platinum more than a dozen times, with two singles soaring to No 1.: “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy.”

As fans, family and friends struggle with their loss, music executive L.A. Reid is opening up about what he sees as the “very mysterious” passing of Prince, reported the Mirror.

“[He was] the greatest at everything. Playing, writing, composing, fashion, everything. He had the masculinity of Teddy Pendergrass, but he could take your girl, wearing high heels,” praised Reid.

But what concerns Reid about the sudden collapse is what he views as his friend’s exceptionally healthy lifestyle.

“The thing that really bothers me about it is the Prince I know was super healthy, vegan, wasn’t an abuser of drugs, wasn’t an abuser of alcohol. He lived right and he was clean. He looked young and he looked really healthy and vibrant, so the whole thing is just like very mysterious to me.”

Moreover, says the music executive, the fact that Prince was found collapsed in an elevator is shocking. Reid revealed that the legendary musician feared elevators, according to Yahoo.

In his song “Let’s Go Crazy,” Prince included a lyric about elevators, pointed out Reid.

“Don’t let the elevator bring us down,” pleads the 1984 song.

“He said, ‘You know what the elevator is, right?’ I said, ‘No, what’s the elevator?’ He said, ‘Well, the elevator is the devil.’ It scared me. I don’t like to talk like that, but he said that. So, for me, it was like really haunting.”

Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson revealed that Prince had been discovered unresponsive following a call for help at the musician’s Prince’s Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, at 9:43 a.m.

“First responders attempted to provide lifesaving CPR, but were unable to revive the victim,” added Olson. “He was pronounced deceased at 10:07 a.m. He has been identified as Prince Rogers Nelson of Chanhassen.”

Now investigators are trying to understand what happened leading up to that collapse, according to Extra.

Prince was reportedly sick, with his plane making an emergency landing last week in order to take him to the hospital. His representative described the reason as the flu.

Rather than recuperating and relaxing after that rush to the hospital, however, Prince spent his remaining hours doing everything from exercising by riding a bike around the town to giving a dance party that lasted all night at his estate.

The musician even headed to the stage to inform the crowd that he was fine.

“Wait a few days before you waste any prayers,” advised Prince.

He also was spotted on April 20, and those who saw him going to a local Walgreens described him as nervous and frail.

Although Reid emphasized that his friend followed a healthy lifestyle, some reports about Prince have referred to drugs, specifically Percocet, according to the Daily Mail.

Allegations include claims that the reason for that emergency landing was not flu but the need for a “save shot” because Prince had consumed so many Percocet pills.

Combining acetaminophen and oxycodone, the drug typically is prescribed for extreme pain, such as joint issues, but it also is associated with a high risk of physical dependency to the opiate oxycodone. Taking more than two Percocet pills at the same time can result in an overdose, and the medication also can contribute to liver damage.
